Thanks hiflyer, for the picture of the B170 with its doors agape. It made my day. There are not that many pictures of the Freighter around. Not enough, anyway.

Flanker_man, that rang a bell to me, I remembered seeing a picture of a Tu-154 with a caption corresponding with your story. Is it this one you saw?

If clicking on ‘Large’ won’t show you the large photo, try clicking on the photo itself. Worked for me.

And with a drawing of a Fokker D XXI, you don’t see that often!

    Don’t forget this preserved workhorse:

The Russians seem to have a more artistic way of mounting planes (and missiles and rockets), so that they look like they are flying or taking off.

I’ve seen other posts of them but sorry can’t supply any links right now.

Just putting a plane on a couple of sticks doesn’t look too good!

    Bri 😎

I agree with you on the artistic element. They go to great lengths to fabricate a nice plinth, and sometimes completely over the top.

I’m just relaxing from a day’s work, and I’m in the mood for songs wich give me a good feeling:

“unofficial national anthem” of Australia: http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=DNT7uZf7lew

I wish I could play like this: http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=X4uLZcaRXcU

And the last piece of music is one that brings a lump in my throat. It is Musica PoΓ«tica from Carl Orff. It was used in the film Badlands (Terrence Malick, 1973). There is no soundtrack of that movie available, but I found these two examples on youtube:

I really have no idea myself, but you can try to get an answer from the owners of this one:

Picture of the VIP interior of this great ex-KLM machine, I think it will suit your needs:

and shoot any of the bug9ers that came near

Pardon my ignorance, but who are the b@stard@s here, actually? The people who own this ‘museum’ and let it rot into oblivion, or the people who take pictures there? Is climbing over the fence, looking around (I know, I know, it’s not legal) and take pictures so that we can see what is is rotting there in the weeds worse than denying enthusiasts access to have a look in exchange for a small fee which can secure the maintenance for these aircraft? Won’t we all walk around there for a few hours and breathe the atmosphere this forgotten museum has? I would!
I understand from several forums and publications that the owner won’t let anyone come near the aircraft, just for playing the game ‘I’ve got something you want and you can’t have it because it’s mine’. I don’t understand that attitude. But I think the pictures are great. Just remember: take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footsteps.

My granny took me once a week to the local toy shop to buy an Airfix kit. I glued a lot of them together, from the Gladiator to the Hawker P.1127, Liberator, Viscount, Bristol Freighter, Sikorsky S-61 etc, and also vehicles like the Sherman, Cromwell, Scammell Tank Transporter, Halftrack, 88mm cannon with personnell carrier, Long Tom etc. In the early stages I didn’t paint anything, later I took more care about detail. For window glass I used object glasses normally used for under the microscope. A bit tricky to break down to the right size, but in the end it gave a very nice result.

The aircraft were later nearly all destroyed by kids who came over and wanted to “play” with them. But I still have a lot of the vehicles somewhere in a box.

You can have exactly the same discussion with the same arguments about owning a Porsche or any other car which can go faster than 200 kph…. Its simply not allowed to go that fast, except for some autobahns in Germany. And if you feel the need to drive really fast you can go to a circuit, pay some money and make a few rounds at speed, instead of putting other motorists in danger on the motorway. Just as there is a difference between offroading on an off-road course and the 4×4 idiots who dig up the countryside when they think nobody is looking at them.

Part of the fun in owning such an automobile is knowing that it can do something an Astra can’t. And if someone thinks that’s not a good enough reason: bad luck. It is my money.
