Their is a company in the UK that insure ground running aircraft but the cost are huge, last time we insured Buccaneer XX894 whilst she was at Kemble, the premium was £1800 per year and that was 4 years ago.
Another line of thought is something that was mentioned during a meeting we had back in the spring, try and locate a company who insure Dragsters, might sound strange but certainly worth looking into.
Best of luck with your endeavours.
IAT Greenham Common 1976, only 5 years old but can still remember seeing and hearing the Lightning F.3’s display, from that point I was hooked, also remember seeing a KC-97 on finals to Greenham in 1974? I think.
I have just received confirmation that the guys are fully intending on a run or two this weekend.
Red Arrows are also based at Bournemouth this weekend and also the Sea Vixen is due out to Eastbourne Tomorrow (Sunday 14th) at 3pm for a display, so its going to be quite a busy weekend.
Buccsociety,
Any idea when your website will be up and running again?
J man
We are currently in the process of changing to a new and larger server that will allow us to use MPEG’s etc without costing a fortune.
This is likely to entail that the site will remain off the web until the end of the month.
One of the planned MPEG’s will be of XX897 being started up (hopefully taken from this coming weekend).
The official line is that the Bucc is to be used as a test bed for the Boats engine.
Mornin’,
Whats the current situation with the sea vixen at brunty? The last I heard it had been dry run last year sometime. Am I correct?
J man
The Sea Vixen is in a state of care and maintenance only, currently being looked after by youngesters Steven Perriss and Jamie Hain.
She was fired into life on several occassions during 2004 and mighty impressive she was too, but run down times on the engines became less and less and it has been decided that the engines need investigation before anymore engine runs are attempted.
Arthur, she looks to be fairly sound from the exterior, but have you managed to take a few panels off to see what she is like on the inside?
Much time will be spent on just cleaning her up and you will get to know your local WD-40 stockist very well. If you want more info on preservation products and techniques that we have used to good effect in the past then please PM me.
Being as the Lightning was only on loan to Hemswell, the owner, Charles Ross, will probably look at housing her elsewhere.
In the meantime, I am starting to worry about you, Stout Bucc fan that you are, what the fasination with the Lightning, mores to the point, what is this? 😀 😀 😀 😀
Joe Petroni is so right……
I believe that Rolls Royce have just announced that they are not supporting the Spey engine,
Ooh dear, the immediate grounding of A-7’s and AMX’s? 😀
Predators packed and ready to go, erm, sorry, meant DM’s!!
I’m part of Glen’s team, so no chance of me missing it. Looking forwards to the arrivals.
10th July is the confirmed date for the LPG Open Day. Looking forwards to seeing your Beech again.
Tests last week confirm that Bucc 894 (RN schemed) is still u/s.
One question – are my eyes playing tricks or is that the nose of a Sea Harrier poking out from behind the crane
Indeed Jagx204, it is a Sea Harrier FA.2 but for the life of me I cannot remember the serial code, and me being me, did not take one single photo of it either.
As for what maybe put in the Bucc’s place at Culdrose, it’s a toss up between Nothing or the Sea Hawk gate guard, the W/O was not sure which way the decision was likely to go.
After my eventful weekend, I can confirm that I will be attending Popham on Monday, so I will give you a call once I am on site Dave.
Looking forwards to meeting some of you.
Which was?
RobAnt, read the first post again and you will see on the second paragraph I mention ‘Her new home just outside Exeter’, I am unable to give you an exact location due to the new owners wishes.
Was it as much “fun” as you’d expected taking it to bits?
Oooh Indeed!!! 😀 Everything was seized solid!!!
