Strangley enough, a matchbox 1:72 scale Buccaneer S.2B in 15Sqn colours and believe it or not, having build this model at the age of 6 it still survives to this day, some 27years later in a glass case at my fathers home. 😎
There was indeed a plan to more 864 to Bournemouth but at the moment it has all gone quite.
I believe the interest is still their but it all hinges on what happens to the Water Speed Record Attempt by Quicksilver ( the company who own XX897).
I will see what I can dig up on 864 in the meantime.
1. DH Sea Vixen FAW.2
2. MD F-4 Phantom
3. MiG-15
4. NA F.86 Sabre
5. EE Lightning
Excellent news Andrew, well done to the team.
I was hoping to be there when she came in but I have been under the weather and nipper isn’t helping matters.
Hope all goes well with the restoration and I will do my utmost to help you guys out, where neccessary.
894 does continue to be a pain but there is light at the end of the tunnel (although its a rather long tunnel) 😀
See you all soon and by the way, great pics.
Hi Plazz, hope you are keeping well.
The answer to question is S.2B New build and modified S.2A airframes equipped with bulged bomb bay for an extra fuel tank and able to carry Martel TV-guided anti-radar missiles; 43 built and 70 converted
S.2C Remaining Royal Navy S.2 aircraft updated to S.2B standard but without ability to carry Martel missiles.
Hope this clears things up.
PS: I have some books for you to go through when I see you next.
Looks very much like RAE Bedford in the late 60’s.
Looks like the Wixers world tour is going to be one hell of a summer. Hang in there guys, you’ll need a few weeks holiday to recover when you get back home.
Especially after a Kemble gig, mark my words!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Excellent photos Glen, could you PM or email me with when she is due to go up again?
Just got to see her.
If anyone is willing to save the Lyneham Comet, then they better start fund raising now, costs of crane hire, low loaders etc is already quite high and will only get higher.
Something to ponder over was the cost of moving Buccaneer 894 from Farnborough to Brunty last year, all in, we saw hardly any change from £4000 and that was done on the cheap!!!!
The costs covered, 2x Cranes, 1x Extended base Artic, 1x Flat Bed with additional trailer, 6 paid Staff, Transport paperwork, Police escort, hire of specialist lifting equipment & transport frame and Insurance.
So for once my unreliable source has proved reliable.
Blue Diamonds colour scheme, please.
Any photos of it Glen?
Hi Plazz, A couple of the guys at Lyneham have told me fairly recently that if nothing is done soon, the Comet will not be long in succumbing to the scrap man, major deterioration is wide spread especially in the undercarriage bays and this is a cause for concern in itself without considering the general condition of the rest of the aircraft.
Lets hope that something is being done to stop the rot!
Here’s one of me, I’m the one walking towards to the chap with the fire extinguisher. Taken in early Spring this year during one of XX894’s many test runs.
I must get to Brunty next year 🙂
Excellent photos.
And just how many times have I invited you up now? 😀
Buccsoc,
Are you sure you mean Anti g straps? Do you not mean Negative G straps?
Thanks for correcting me dees01.
As for Thunder City, ever tried getting Blood from a Stone!!!! Still awaiting a tailplane pivot bearing that they were going to send to us, only been waiting a year so far!!!
if you wanted to get involved with the aircraft go to http://www.coldwarjets.com or http://www.bucc society.com or pm me for membership details for Buccaneer Restorations.
there are a few groups active at Bruntingthopre but we mainly help each other out
Just to correct the above link for the Buccaneer Societies web address, http://www.buccsociety.com
As adwwebber has mentioned, we do tend to help each other out where at all possible, so the chances are that you may find yourself working on someone elses machine from time to time.
