I will be their, please note, the organisers are only opening one entry point at the moment and that’s through the main gate, so get their early, although we don’t seem to have that much trouble with traffic.
Regardless of the problems experienced at Cosford today, the best way to get in and out of any airshow is to arrive well before its due to open (a good hour) and leave early (well before the last display item). Last years RIAT was a perfect example of this practice, arrived at 5:30am and left at 4:30pm, no problems what so ever!!
Suggestion: Get to the Kemble Air Day (this coming Sunday) early rather than later, only one entrance gate open this year and demand for tickets has been high!!!
Here’s the official flyer for the event.
It’s great to see so many of you post images of Cold War Warriors, I wish I could contribute but most of mine are of aircraft on the ground (considering I started this thread, just a tad annoyed!!), aerial photography was not one of my forte’s, restoring them to their former glory is.
Still waiting on info on the Collins Phantom & the IAF Starfighters though!!
Sod it, here’s a photo of a very ground bound but live Bucc, 894!!!!!!!!
Here is a Bucc photo taken by my Dad at RIAT 03
Aah, the Jet that we displayed!!! It was great to see a lot of ex-crews come round to talk to us about these awesome machines, we spoke to several whom had actually flown 889, most of them say that apart from 885, she was the best on squadron strength, I hate to think what they thought of our Jet, 894!!! Tempermental so and so, and she continues to be just that!!!! New fuel pipes anyone???
Good to hear that you are going to promote your site Andrewman, give us something to be proud of, I have stacks of Bucc photos at my disposal if required. 😎
Stringbag, could I possibly have a couple of copies of the images you took of G-CVIX last weekend? Jeez, that was touch and go!!! What did you think of my amature video technique?? And no, its not porno, well I did’nt think it was!!!!!!!!!!! :p
Their you go, I told you Glen would know!! Cheers Glen, see you at the weekend. 😀
Kemble’s currently Kemble Information, can anybody remember if it was Info before they got their licence?
I seem to remember it being ‘Kemble Tower’ before the licence, I am sure that Glen could clear this one up.
Is this the F100 you mentioned???
Yes my friend, that’s the one, I remember an old issue of AI (sorry Key!!) which featured a write up by Dan Griffiths on this very aircraft after having flown it for the first time, he was mightly impressed!!!
Thanks for posting the Bucc images, she was the master of impressive rotations, as can be seen in the second image.
Another poser for all you Classic Jet enthusiasts, I remember not so long ago, their was a web site promoting the private sale of Italian Air Force F-104S Starfighters once they come out of service later in the year, does anyone have a URL for it?
Thanks in advance.
Good to see that this thread got a lot of response, thanks to you all for your replies. 😎
Excellent photos guys, especially of Delta’s Gnat, thanks Box Brownie, we were based at Kemble (2000 through to 2002), so we got to see a lot of their aircraft particularly G-FFOX/WV318.
Andrewman, I think its about time you started to promote your Jet Forum, I am more than willing to put a link to your web site through ours.
Does anyone have any recent photos of the following Classic Jets:
The Collins Foundation Phantom and the expertly polished F-100 Super Sabre that can be found on the US Airshow circuit? I believe that the F-100 was up for sale recently.
Lastly thanks to you all for your comments, I wish you all a great Airshow filled Summer, Kemble Air Day anyone?? 😀
Changing the subject very slightly, did anyone get photos of Miss Demeanour when she got damaged??
I have noticed that the damage is severe enough for her to be pulled from the Kemble Air Day participation list!!! 🙁
XE601, though upgraded to ‘9 standard was never officially called one and didnt even get an F6″A” suffix!
Ok, I will stick to Buccaneer’s!! Cheers for clearing that up for us, dispells a 30year myth that my father installed in me!!!
Hunters F.6 XE601
Spit that again my friend, 601 is an FGA.9, the only possible airworthy one left.
Hunter Flying Club are hoping to keep her in this country, the T.7 though, is going to the Northen Lights operation in Canada.
The Vulcan (having not seen one fly, move or even start up, yet..)
The VULCAN gets my vote everytime, closely followed by E.E Lightning & F-4 Phantom.
Although I am very Buccaneer orientated, you could never say that the Bucc was a great display aircraft, awesome all the same!!!!!!!!
Also reckon the displays put on by Canberra WK163 & Sea Vixen XP924 are brilliant, lots of noise & power!!!! 😀
Hi Dave,
That was what was heard in the static park at the recent Brunty Open day, so whether or not its true is up for debate.
Hoping to see your Jet at many an event this year, never fails to impress, shame our Bucc can never be restored to flight status!! 🙁
There is no chance of XH568 taxiing, at least for the foreseeable future.
She is totally gutted, no engines, no instruments, no anything.
Their is a proposal to restore her to display condition and place her on the gate at Brunty, but things have to start happening now!!!!
WT333 on the other hand is coming along nicely, a big hand must go to her team for such a great restoration. 😀
