They seem quite progressive, I think I read of a new Turin base for them also.
Yes understand where your coming from. A few years back Flybe launched a load of new routes from Liverpool, again times were not as good as could have been, plus frankly I think their heart wasnt in it, and were more Manchester orientated. Certain routes I used a few times including, Liverpool-Southampton.This was often flown with a 146 jet, instead of Dash8 so you can’t really say, no-one was using it, for sure whenever I flew that route, it was busy, full infact. Then it just went, with all of the others (except LPL- IOM). They may not have used based MSE aircraft, as testing the water, and also EDI and MAN bigger business catchment areas.
On a seperate note, I read Flybe are cutting a number of routes soon, and shedding a lot of staff, so things are not so rosy, with that airline. from them I hightly doubt any new innovative routes (such as Manston) from them in the near future.
Although Flybe had a go on the domestic front not long back from MSE to EDI and MAN, neither survived.
Hi…thanks for updating me. Im from Kent originally hense my curiosity. Yes will be interesting if they manage to make a “go” of it.
Norwegion will start Liverpool – Copenhagen soon too
Flew on them last Friday evening from Manchester to Edinburgh, and back Sunday afternoon, both flights half full.
Liverpool doesnt have a Copenhagen link at moment, so imagine thats why, maybe they are thinking of of a North of England base, bit more room at Liverpool than Manchester
Plus its quite a remote location
I can understand that, there is an importand bird reserve nearby
Can’t see it there, but thanks anyway, it was along ago, and maybe it was an operation that didnt run for long. What would benefit Manston would be a station link, think the railway line is not too far. Im also interested what is happening at Lydd, but this airport is really out in the wilds, its quite far from Ashford.
no it wasnt Invicta I knew of them, they were mainly involved with freight I think , although i think they may have done passenger charter flights, seem to recall they even had a Boeing 720 towars then end of their operations.
I think the Air Kent service, had the Kent Messager newspaer behind it ?
I wonder how TAP is doing in comparison, as the other flag carrier on the Iberian peninsula ?
Was there a small airline years back called Air Kent which operated from Manston across the channel, maybe to Amsterdam ? Im from Kent originally , so always interested in whats going on at Manston and Lydd, never much when I was a kid unfortunately, although I did fly on Janus Airways from Lydd to Ostend for a day trip !
Hopefully, it will be a success, and save people from East Kent having to back track up to London. KLM most recent new UK route was Liverpool-Amsterdam, in competion with Easyjet. They appeared tobe building the route quite well going from 3 to 4 per day, but then suddenly dropped the connection as part of a route rationalisation.
Dont get me wrong I think its quite innovative, Manston area is quite a haul to the London Airports, I just wonder if there is enough demand, bearing in mind Flybe’s attempts at flights from Manston were not a success, and EUjet went the same way.
