Phwoar, got any pics, civil aero, or is there a thread elsewhere?
Well there’s a hint that they should maybe print it again if they could get permission or, at least, ‘we’ have somewhere to start with such a thing.
I’ll send you a PM, CS.
Superb.
Really looking forward to my next visit. Suspect I won’t recognise the place!
I finally found my copy at a secondhand bookshop in Echuca, Victoria. Had been searching for several years and was astounded when I saw it on the shelf.
I have a live search for it on Abebooks, CS, so will give you a yell if something comes up in the short-term (by which time you may have set up your own search if you haven’t already).
As an aside, and it’s of no help whatsoever, it’s one of the small print-run books by Australian pilots that I would like to have reprinted and ‘re-released’ but that sort of thing takes time that I don’t currently have.
Hi Simon
She’s a new build. Have a look at James Kightly’s blog for a good overview – http://vintageaeroplanewriter.blogspot.com/2013/09/the-raaf-museum-boxkite-airborne.html
Chapter and verse here – http://www.boxkite2014.org/boxkite_home.html
Since he/she is featuring in this investigation as an official standard of measure, it is only right to ask what his/her name (bit of a cutie too) is please, Richard.
They both wore the same colours at the same time, Dan – 44-73979 as a static exhibit and A68-192 as a flyer.
Re the twin engine Luftwaffe type – Norwegian Lake ( not Swedish)
Dave (Classic Wings)
Thanks, Dave. I keep walking past that issue on the table but get distracted by one of the short people in the house.
VH-III, Flyer.
I think you’re right, Pete, about a Corsair not flying in Australia since the war unless some USN carriers visited before/during/after Korea. A long way for them to come once coming off station though. Either way…
IIRC, the He115 recovery in Norway (?) has been delayed till summer of this year. The same report – Classic Wings or AM, I think – also mentioned something about a “possible German twin” recently sighted in a Norwegian lake (for some reason I’m now thinking Sweden … was only skimming while flipping steaks on the BBQ!).
The recovery of the Northrop Nomad, in Lake Muskoka, Canada, is supposed to happen this year as the remains of the crew have been removed by the RCN’s divers. Again, the story of the recovery was in the latest Classic Wings.
Cheers, Denis. Won’t be this year but would certainly like to take the kids there when we finally get back up there to introduce them to their UK relatives. Just a quick hop over the Channel…
Sad to see ‘DVE like that, Dan. She was certainly a lot happier when parked, and cared for, at Brooklands.
Good on you, Dan. Nice job with the website. When I lived in WA Lyn Forster at Brooklands (near York) had a Devon sitting next to the hangar for about a year (2003 or thereabouts). No further details (why does VH-DVE ring a bell?) so no help at all, sorry, but I think Geoff Rundall owned her? Never met him but Lyn had heaps of hair-raising stories about him. That’s my only relationship with a Dove/Devon but I’ve been smitten ever since. Got some 6×4 prints somewhere. They’ll at least confirm a rough date.
Lyn now lives in Mt Eliza, IIRC.
Would like to attend it one day to pay my respects. Thank you to those of you who attend year after year.
What a great way to start the year. Superb news and great to see a passion and dedication for historic aviation being rewarded.
