I was there, I enjoyed it. It was different from the norm and seemed to please most of the visitors. There were a few who were expecting a larger air display and a few frustrated at not being able to sit in the cockpits but overall it got my vote. Highlight for me was helping a WWII vereran to get back in to a Blenheim for the first time in 62 years and listening to the memories flooding back (massive thanks to the guys at ARCo for that).
PS: SE5fan, the silver IWM Spit is a Mk 24.
At the risk of pointing out the awful truth, no it is not!!!
Mark 12,
Besides having an absolutely marvellous name you are absolutely correct.
Haydon-Baillie did indeed rescue a good number of Spits from India in 1977 including MT719, but Mr Arnold (in my opinion the founder of the warbird preservation movement as we know it today) was already doing it (rescuing Spits from the sub-continent) rather quietly and rather successfully.
Are we talking fabriced or fabricated? (Far from) subtle difference between the two!
Hmm – now what about this new Spit at ARCO/HFL?
Phantom II,
Underated yes (P-40), but not everyone is guilty. It takes a long time to mask out those sharks teeth and Alutian tiger heads, so sombody loves them. Not thinking about anyone in particular of course.
Absolutely correct, few weeks ago – engine quit but pilot unhurt.
Dan
You have exceptionally good taste. Next time you are in Virginia be sure to drop by Suffolk airport.
Don’t worry, its the thought that counts.
Snapper. is it just the TF variety of mustang that leaves you cold (does that stand for Tom Friedkin I wonder?).
Bentwing,
He has obviously gone to Iraq in search of Hawkers finest. Good luck to him!
Damien,
I am sure no one could have possibly meant to insult you. Any remarks are, I assure you, good natured at heart, just does’nt always appear so.
Try No. 4 in the Warbird Tech series of books: http://www.aerobookcompany.com/warbird_tech_series.html
Droptank, perhaps you are already on the plane to the Gulf as we speak….
Dear Damien,
Although I respect your views and generally agree, in life one cannot expect others to communicate in the same language as one would choose. In other words, relax and let live. Some posts are succinct, in plain speech, this may come across as abrasive but charm and tact cannot be demanded and it is not always appropriate.
Quite possible I would have thought, perhaps even likely.
