Fantastic news that the engine run was a success. Welcome aboard the Forum. Just one request, unless these engine runs are a private affair and public access is to be restricted and little more notice of the the event would be appreciated.
“Couldn’t help but take a peek in the smaller workshops behind hanger 3 last weekend and saw the firefly outer wings looking amazing. Maybe time for the rest to catch up “
so if SE-BRG wings are in the workshop, what yellow Firefly wings are in Hangar 5 ?
Taking of wings at the September show there were a set of wings behind SE-BRG in Hangar 2. Straight wing civil reg EC-??D. Piper Cub either EC-AHD or EC-AKD ???
I am sure the Twin Pin is much loved and a joy to fly, and be flown in. But surely there are other aircraft types with similar capacity, Devon, Pembroke, even DC-3, which are going to be easier to return to flight and operate ? When you stop flying the last remaining airworthy (in the UK) example of any aircraft type its going to be an uphill struggle to get it back in the air. Best be realistic and find a good, secure, permanent home, preferably under cover, where it can be put back together and displayed. I assume that the ‘non airworthy’ parts are still around to rebuild to static condition ? Equally surprised at the road transport issues.
Great news if funds allow for more hangar at Stow Maries.
What is the news behind the story that TVAL’s Snipe is returning to New Zealand ?
What, if any, involvement does the modern day RAF have with Biggin Hill and do RAF Chaplin’s administer services in the chapel ? If the answer is yes what is their view on these changes.
Totally agree that what is left of the war time layout, ‘blast pens’ and buildings, ect should be the priority for preservation.
I expect a Mosquito is not a easy thing to ‘safely’ move by road. Whilst I dont expect HJ711 would ever fly again the team were working towards engine runs and that must require a certain amount of structural integrity within the wing. Congratulations to all involved and a great addition to East Kirby but a sad loss to Elevington.
Also a great shame that the move of the Wellington from one hangar to another was carried out without publicity. Expect the great and the good got their photos.
The thread has been rendered useless by the Photobucket. Its there nothing that can be done ?
It looks like the images are still available but by double clicking the images your directed to Photobucket’s own website and you have to suffer their advertising.
This link might prove useful to PB users as it explains how to copy out the whole photo library so you can at least start to rebuild you life.

Your Flickr posts are great please continue, but I am only see about half of each image, might this be a file size issue ?
Hopefully one of your ‘helpers’ can be allowed to ferret around PB and move all your archive photos to FB. Would be a great shame to lose them from public view.

Anybody know who was piloting Miss Velma ?
There were story’s some time ago about a Gladiator and even some Italian wrecks being discovered off shore around Malta. But the authorities are sensitive to any form of recover operation ?
Great news if these sites can be found and protected, even if there location means a they slowly wash away.
Great news if true. But I personally do not believe a word the numpty’s who commentate at a Shuttleworth show have to say. When the BBMF Hurricane LF363 displayed the commentary clearly stated that the aircraft was in 1 sqn markings and that it had the squadrons ‘Wasp’ marking in the nose. Yes last year it did, but this year it is different both sides, something that even they could have seen, even if they did not understand what GN-F / SD-A stood for. I am no expert but even I can read the internet to find out.
Apart from that what a great show !!!
like wise forgot about this event. Living on ten mile or so away i would happy had a look. Shame on the organiser not to post a reminder. Its not all about traders getting to to have a chat how about the general public who simply might want to take a look. Looking back up the thread I dont even see the location being published ?
If only Capt. Eric Brown were still around. Guess the conversation would be about how he did the same thing (several times) in the Vampire. 😎
“They were limited to 499 visitors at the weekend by the local council. Chap we spoke to reckoned they turned away about 400 people!!”
Exactly what I thought, whilst there may be some safety requirements imposed by the CAA, I heard the main issues are due to the local residents trying to stop the development of the site and in particular the flying activities. May be somebody from the Stow Maries collection can confirm what rules are imposed. It is no good complaining to Stow Maries if the local authority are the ones to blame.
