I was being slightly cynical with #10!

It’s well over 10 years ago since I was last in a tyre factory (IIRC – Pirelli, Burton on Trent to interview a mixing room manager about their new Silane weighing / handling systems) and my specific knowledge on the sector isn’t quite what it once was! 😉

A question for you knowledgeable chaps! Has there been any spin off from the tyre technology applied to F1 or is none of that development applicable to standard road tyres?

Some – as mentioned in #10.

The batches of compound produced for motor sport are much smaller than those produced for the ‘mass-market’, but some aspects of the ‘chemistry’ of the compounding process do have commercial applications.

I’ve checked a couple of times and not found anything I’m afraid (hence why I didn’t post) – that said there’s quite a high turnover of items so I may have missed something! 😮 Plus I must confess that I didn’t check on Saturday – sorry!!

I’m over again on Thursday to host another school visit so I’ll check again.

Also, I’ll check with the shop manager and see whether she’s aware of any ‘secret stockpiles’ that haven’t been put out yet!! 😉

Yes indeed lucky, flying over some spectacular locations and a good way to start the week.

I visited the museum a couple of years ago and the Lancaster had flown west for some air displays a couple of days before we arrived – that said we were well looked after and went inside their B.25J, which was wearing a ‘City of Derby’ crest!

The 227 Squadron connections are also very special as they were based locally at RAF Balderton plus the crew also trained at RAF Langar and RAF Syerston here in Notts.

A YouTube link from a friend in Canada arrived the other day of a Lancaster flight that he made with his brother back in the summer and I’ve just re-run it again!

It’s dedicated to his late father and his Lancaster crew on 227 Squadron and as it said in the covering email – “turn up the volume and enjoy!” 🙂

I made my decision a long while ago and as it says on the back page of Memorial Flight 2013 – “Keep calm and support Lincolnshire’s Lancaster Association”

The first item in the ‘Advent Present Ideas’ album has gone live this morning and there are also some updated photographs of progress on the Auster AOP.9 project in the Work & Behind the Scenes album, both albums can be found in here!

Earlier in the week my PC took a Windows update and when viewing the albums this morning I had to adjust the compatibility settings on my browser to get the software to run the albums properly!!

Talking to people on site yesterday apparently the Merlin arrival and departure on Friday (see previous post) was spectacular! Hopefully some of their colleagues from Oxfordshire might be making a further visit today – albeit by coach this time!

While not really historic I thought forumites might be interested to know that NAM received a ‘fly-in’ visitor this morning from a 28 (AC) Squadron Merlin – mini news item in here – apparently all attempts to smuggle it across to Hangar 2 failed!! 😀

What many people don’t appreciate is that in the last 20 years most tyre manufacturers have changed their compounds significantly – with the main aim being to reduce rolling resistance and thereby increase the mpg.

This has been achieved by changing the grades of carbon black, using more silica fillers and increasing the use of silanes. This supposedly shouldn’t affect grip, but does it?

    To be honest NAM only closes 4 days p/a (Dec 24, 25, 26 & Jan 1) – post-Christmas Forum Meet?

As long as Lincoln doesn’t bring his CHRISTMAS tinsel!! 😀
