The late Darrel Stinton quotes: Airmanship is being “Street-wise” on the ground and in the air in all matters affecting the conduct of an effective flight with the highest level of safety for its intended purpose.
As a former gliding instructor I used this for my pupils. Try looking up the origins of “ab-initio” even harder to find.
I have an AP.129 RAF Flying Training Manual 1931. It says the object of airmanship is to teach pupil pilots how to handle their aeroplanes and engines correctly on the ground and in the air.
It would be interesting to view a copy of the AP.1732 Gosport patter book as airmanship in the RAF was largely developed by Smith-Barry and the Central Flying School.

I had the opportunity to go to Fairford this year on Sunday. All the gripes about traffic issues we arrived and only held for 15 minutes got in at 09.30 . A big thank you to the police who were well organised. We were in the blue car park which was a short walk to the gate. The RAF on the security gate were very polite and got people through quickly. I enjoyed all the flying non stop from 09.00 to 6pm. Lots of excellent flying from the Grippen,Su-22Ms,Tornado,F-16s and the RAF Eurofighter was a brilliant display. The A400 and Spartan transports put on a lively display also . Not forgetting the Merlin,Chinook,Lynx and Apache also. I did not take any photos as you can see them on the forums I just enjoyed the flying and noise ! The C-45 N45CF in the static was a highlight for me. It only took us 15 minutes to get out apart from hold ups at Jnc 15 M4 which was to be expected. It was a great show a chance to meet and talk to military pilots and the quality of the flying excellent especially the fast jet slow passes. Duxford is suffering with “Spitfire” mania ,there are other aircraft that deserve just as much recognition.

The ” something solid” is remove all of the dangerous fencing around the perimeter and replace barbed wire with frangible plastic and no I was not there or had to be
does that make you so elite if you were ? I hate the aggressive clique on this forum. Don’t expect anymore replies .

Most important is look at all the barbed wire fencing in the undershoot area ,no options for a faltering engine in this case. It looks like an anti glider invasion obstacle course. All runways there need clear approaches as these old aircaft and engines can be temperamental. Roger is a very experienced pilot and he was doing his best to get to a touchdown point.

From the photograph unhappy about the engine cowling ending up in the cockpit presume after hitting a large tree branch. The crash survivability structure does not look good in the front bulkhead area ? Glad that the pilot survived .

Is there a date for returning to Canada ? before the winter weather sets in over the Atlantic. An excellent book on the restoration of FM213 is “Mynarski’s Lanc ” Bette Page Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum 1989.

“Failed To Return” and “Missing-Believed Killed” both great titles which I have particularly enjoyed the pieces on Amy Johnson,Glenn Miller and Amelia Earhart.
