Morning to you fella . . seems to have been a few passing through good old ebay over the last weeks, and suprisingly, only one seems to have seems to have sold. So guess there are a good few out there at the moment. If you’re quick, there is a Nimrod up for grabs 🙂

Good luck 🙂
Hi all – a couple of photos taken of the 2 lunchtime departures on Tuesday . .
Well, time to update this thread with what i’ve managed to get done in between work, Horses, Land rover, Horses, and all the other wonderful things that get in the way of doing what I really want to do lol . . . . 🙂
As some of you may see from the pics, there are a few ‘extras’ that i’ve managed to get hold of, which for the time being is taking away from the originality of the plane. But i’m sure not too many people wouold notice that i’ve got hold of some 700 series bits, namely the control yokes, the throttle box and the instrument panel. But in time, I hope to replace these with original – well thats what i’m telling myself!!!
Also, you may recognise the Dominie influence as well 🙂
Anyway, please enjoy and as always, comments and bits are always welcome. Sadly, i’m not going to be able to take it to Cockpitfeast, but I will be there in body sometime . . .
Cheers all
Fast and low inbound to Old Warden
The next few images in this sequence would have been interesting 🙂
The Victor nose is in the middle of the shot, to the left of that wheel, pointing at the camera. It’s well mangled 🙁
Well spotted that man!!! 🙂
Hi there guys. Firstly, many thanks for those superb pics. Always nice to have these sort of images to help piece together the history words are great – but as the saying goes ‘a picture paints a thousand words’ 🙂
As for your chance to have a sit in the LH seat – you didn’t by any chance manage to keep it did you!!?!?! lol . . seems like a rare item to come by!!
As for the other bits and pieces, seem to be gathering most of the items I need now and hopefully got the chance of a trip to gather some more (will keep you informed on the out come). At moment, i’m trying to ‘fill in the holes’ after some bits have been sawn off – reminds me of my old BDR days in the RAF!!!!
I managed a trip up to Cranwell the other day for the Viewing day organised by the DSA in preperation for the disposal of the Dominies. Both a sad day to see them sat their wondering their fate, but also very interesting and met up with a mate from years past!! As it turns out, been working on them for years!!! 🙂
Attached a few pics from the day – incedently, seemed like a few museums were represented along with a few well known ‘bulk buyers’!!!
Anyway, thanks again and more pics/history the better 🙂 by the way, if you’re heading past Nottingham at all and want to have a look again, just drop me a PM and sure wouldn’t be a problem!!
Does anyone know what time the Dominie will be departing Cranwell??
are we in a minority here then?? I mean restoring on the front drive lol . . 🙂
Apologises if i’ve used someones pics by the way 🙂
MMmm . . . must admit, didn’t like that colour scheme either. These are other images of service life . . . the first 2 are images of other a/c operating for companies that she flew for . . . personally – I like the Busy Bee scheme!!! 🙂
Ok, time for a quick update on what i’ve done/achieved so far – despite the wonderful freezing weather!!!!
Cockpit is now back ‘home’ – well, at my home anyway 🙂 is mounted on a trailer so is completely moveable!! This was a customised boat trailer, modified to allow the cockpit to sit in it and also to allow for strapping for moving (although, don’t think this will be needed!!)
I have been stripping out the internal wiring – you’d be surprised (or maybe not) how much this weighs!! The back edge where it had been separated from the rear fuselage has been tidied up so all sharp edges removed and is now ready for the rear to be sealed!!. Access door now operates, but I do need to do a little work on the internal runners to stop the rollers coming out occasionally.
The cockpit floor has been removed to allow for the control cables to be removed and also for the lateral control rod to be ‘fixed’ allowing dual movement – I know not essential, but interesting and I think a must!!
The nose has been connected – although this has just been bolted on temporarily as the hinges had been cut through. Hoping to hear soon from a few emails about the hinges, amongst the many other parts needed. The other holes, such as windows and missing panels have been sealed to prevent water/snow and little creatures getting in!!
With the sad demise of the RAF Dominie fleet, got me thinking of the final paint scheme to be the good old red/grey/white of the old days 🙂 I know it’s not the correct representation of the aircraft, but as long as I keep the history of the cockpit available, I think the paint scheme would be good – open to suggestions/criticism etc on that 🙂
Cheers all – more photos at weekend once wifey has moved car lol . .
I thought the 748 had been sold on ebay?!?!?
Thanks for that – is a little expensive as I only really need the joystick though. I have made an offer, but he’s got others offering more, so i’ll look elsewhere 🙂
If your interested – an update on this little cockpit!!!
As I type, it is just about bolted onto a modified boat trailer courtesy of Weldhall Fabrications in Long Clawson (near Nottingham). Internally, the old instrument panel is now out and waiting for my next visit down south to drop off to Martin for a restoration project he’s involved with down there. I’ve also removed the centre comms panel and looking if it can be salvaged after some bright spark has hacked it with a still saw for some reason!! Only took a few nuts and bolts to take the whole assembly out – so not sure whats happened there!! 🙂
Also, looking around the outside at some of the damage inflicted by same hacker with the still saw!! Not very tidy the removal of some of the external probes, sure there was a reason – open to suggestions!!! 🙂
So now begins the search for a few bits and bobs – any leads to contacts would be very much appreciated. Anyone know anyone at Manston for example?? Cranfield, Bournmouth or anywhere else there maybe be a unloved airframe rotting away??
. . . to name a few bits and bobs!!
pics to follow 🙂
Cheers all
Be nice if they are there!!!! 🙂 bit cold and hard sitting on the metal steps lol . . .
