Thank you everyone that’s an amazing amount of info, Buster Briggs is definitely the man, it’s all in the eyes! Great to see some photos especially with other crew.
Much indebted to you all!

Chorley’s Bomber Command Losses for 1944 states that MZ529 came down at the village of Blauberg (Antwerpen), 3km ESE of Herselt π
When the Little Staughton postman is on leave, I get to cover his job, which takes in most of the airfield, I can see I’m going to have to keep my eyes to the ground rather than on the mail!
Hi Cees, some good photos of said halibag on this website, hope the link works!

Hi Paul,
Funnily enough I do remember the advert, as I’m waiting for said book release!(roll on 2009!). It’s featured in the August 08 magazine on page 33. If you can’t find it, here is a list of the books mentioned in the advert:
“The Price of Peace” – RAF aircraft losses May-December 1945
“Final Landing” – RAF Aircraft Accidents 1946-1949
“Last Take-Off” – RAF Aircraft Written Off 1950-1953
Coming soon….
“Though Without Anger” – Losses of Transport & Special Duties Aircraft and Assault Gliders 1940-1945
“Category Five” amalgamation & update of “Lost in Service” and “To Fly No More” to cover 1953-2008
Hope this helps!

Ah the Great Carrs Halifax, I was up there in August, if you would like a copy of some of the pics I took pm me with your e-mail address and I will forward them to you. π

How do you go about commisioning memorials to aircrew? Is it a long winded process and what are the costs (obviously depending on what kind of memorial you want)?
Cheers
Simon
Here’s a picture of her from a trip to Duxford on Friday 16th May, everything seemed ok then, she did make a short flight and had landed by the time I had come out of hangar 3 but no-one was fussing around her!
At present I can’t seem to find anything on your man apart from his service number which is: 905025
He isn’t listed in the bomber command losses roll of honour book (vol9) yet his name appears on the Runnymede Memorial, he also isn’t listed in the 1941 book or the otu and hcu books.
I’ve also checked the coastal command losses and the fighter command losses books all to no avail.
Someone somewhere must know something about what happened to him?
In the meantime I will keep looking. π
Regards
Simon
Done and Done. π
Hi Paul, welcome to the forum! π
I don’t know whether you have tried but Hendon keep copies of the aircraft accident report cards, if your Hampden is amongst them you might get an exact location from that, can’t recall if there is a small fee but might be worth a shot.
Hope that is of some use?
regards
Simon
Thanks T-21 that sounds like it should definately be the one!:)
It certainly left a big hole in the ground and from what the eyewitnesses said it rattled a few slates off the roofs’ aswell. π
Thanks to everyone else for helping out.
cheers

You could also check out the Roll of Honour website as they have a book of rememberance for 109 & 582 Squadrons, it lists all the crews lost in date order.
Hope this is of some use!:)
