Can you get a Jumo 207A-1 in a Sea Fury?
When asked what engines he wanted, the designer said ‘diesel do’
It is ah raining here also!
Steve,
I’m really sorry to hear the news, especially in view of the ‘good cause’ that you had chosen.
Have you passed the bad news on to Ted yet? I’m seeing him on Sunday, so if you want me to give him a message, stick it in a PM & I’ll let him know.
BTW see my post in the ‘Bomber crew’ thread on the ‘civilised’ forum, that might make you smile.
Geoff.
Noticed that at one point the Beech 18 flew over St Ives, just as well Steve wasn’t the ‘Target for today’.
Dave,
I have two die-cast Corgi aircraft, the He111 in BoB day colours and the Ju87, also in BoB colours.
I’ve always been hopeless at plastic model kits, no skill, or patience, so without Corgi I wouldn’t be able to have these two wonderful aircraft to look at.
At the end of the day, I’m happy with the aircraft, and what I paid for them, which is what matters.
If only they’d bring out a Dornier 17Z & a Ju88A…
Geoff.
Try this website, cost inc P&P is £41 https://ssl.iomart.com/jacksonsmodels.co.uk/acatalog/Corgi_Classic_Warbirds.html
And Just a few photos of some of the range.
Must admit I’m very tempted by the 109E & the Stuka (BoB), the P-40 looks nice too.
Geoff.
Cheers for clearing that up Bruce.
Geoff.
It’s not morbid Rob, I did the same thing for many of the casualties of 131 (County of Kent) squadron. You could write to the local paper/s in the areas where the graves are, asking if anyone could take some photos for you. It worked for me quite often.
There is a page (http://www.152hyderabad.co.uk/html/roll_of_honour__1939-1945.html) on Rob’s 152 Squadron webside with the graves & their locations listed, so please have a look & see if any are near you.
Geoff
Many thanks for the replies.
Bruce – So you’re saying that the wheel in the photos & with the markings ‘LF 16744/2, AH207, ISSUE 12, & on the other side – ‘16744/ 52 (with the 5 struck out), AA2112, so200’ is from a Spitfire for certain – yes? BTW is ‘AERO’ the name of the maker?
Now does anyone know of a Spitfire that came down near Hoath, Kent, in 1940 or otherwise?
Geoff.
A few more photos. Do they help?
If it is a Dominie/Rapide wheel, could it have been fitted to a Spitfire? Perhaps due to a shortage of proper Spitfire tailwheels?
I suppose the RAF officer could have just given ‘a’ wheel to the farmer’s son, one that he just happened to have on their low-loader etc. from a Dominie/Rapide. Maybe he even told the lad it was from the Spitfire?
Geoff.
David,
Many thanks for that quick response. Doesn’t tie-in with the story though. Mind you the person I’m helping has bought the wheel off someone who got it from the farmer’s son. Mmmmm!!!
Could it have been used on any other aircraft?
Geoff
I hope it isn’t catching, just from reading this thread. Not had any problems with my optical mouse & I’m also running XP.
Geoff.
Air-Britain P1000 to R9999 has ‘R2153 235/252/272/2 OTU To synthetic trainer 10/41’
Geoff.
Cannot remember the name but I seem to recall a series on tv where some scenes were filmed at Duxford, and there were a couple of meteors painted black with some large code letters on the sides, Airforce, or something like that.
Anyone else remember or am I just ‘barking’
Yes, I remember it, although I don’t think I actually watched it. Richard Briars was in it I think.
Just thought of ‘Chessgame’, a series with Terrance Stamp and team working for the ‘Defence Intelligence Staff’, it ran for only six episodes aired during November-December 1983. The first episode ‘Flying blind’ featured if my memory serves me right a crashed RAF Pembroke being found in a lake.
In the original book, ‘The labyrinth Makers’ by Anthony Price, it was a Dakota, and the crew had been flying contraband out of Berlin, including some documents that in the 80s the Soviets were still keen to get back.
