Dave Morris is doing a book as per the Corsair restoration. Team there are fairly busy with other projects so the Martlet will take time. Bit of info is that it looks like AL246 was originally a G36 destined for the French! If your’e ever in the museum ask the staff for Dave & I’m sure he’ll give you a guided tour of it,
Dave
Seems alot of Mk6’s in use, only thought 771 sqdn & few ‘jungly’ moded ones were flying? Don’t forget the MK4’s & the various test versions!
Dave
I think theres a few years left in them yet. More than likely the SAR flights might go civilian at some stage, time will tell. Merlins bit too expensive for just SAR,
Dave
that wouldn’t be a certain Mr l. Lacey would it? I lost contact with him, us two did a P-51 model display years ago at Leiston.
Dave
Why not buy more EH-101 Merlins, rather than buy a new helo type?
Would it not make sense to keep the logistical support as simple as possible?
Theres six newish ones being done right now! Due for delivery around xmas if not sooner.

Sad Sad news.
It was on the BBC report tonight, it certainly brings the issue of helicopters (or lack of them) to sharp relief. The really sad thing is if the then Tory government (hey its not just Labour who can make bad millitary procurement decisions) had decided to purchase the Westland Sikorsky Blackhawk and retired the Puma as intended in the mid 90’s we wouldn’t be in this situation now.
What surprised me about the report was when they said the Puma will be retired in three years anyway, a rather surprising statement as there appears to be no clear replacement at the moment and they are fully tasked (my choice would be the new aw149 which Augusta Westland intends to build in the UK anyway).
The AW149 will be built in Italy. The UK factory will be the primary build plant for future EH101’s and the forthcoming ‘super’ Lynx for the Uk. Just thought I’de let you know!

Hi All,
Anyone seen any info/drawings/sketches of the westlands fighter projects between the P9 whirlwind and the P14 welkin.Apparently the P13 was a project with twin merlins in the fuselage.
I don’t need any info on the P-12 ( or should it be PV-12 ) the Delanne tail lysander.
cheers
Jerry
Hi Jerry,
can you pm me with what you need. i have access to Westlands archives, unfortunately they cannot be access through normal channels!
Dave
Nicely taken collection, especially as the light is awkward at the FAA museum,
Dave
According to FAA sqdns book 827 operated with Firefly NF1’s during this period in Malaya.
Hope this is of help?
Dave
Not having much luck are they? I know a new type of tail rotor is undergoing testing currently, as far as corrosion goes new to me!
Lee, is that two-seater fury still there?
There a SHAR on the airfeild still? If so wonder who & why its there?
