Well perhaps North Weald? There’s even a C54/DC4 you could place it next to…

It looks as though your pic is actually of a SARO London rather than a Stranny. Shape of the rudders is particularly distinctive.

I’m sorry I can’t help with any info on Strannies in combat, but it’s an interesting question.

Overall, I’ve been as useful to you as a chocolate fireguard…

Really hope this comes to fruition, it would be amazing to see. It might also widen the possible locations for eventual retirement when the time comes, couldn’t see it having much of a long term preservation future at Cairns.

Perhaps this is an obvious suggestion that’s already been chased, but what about it becoming an extra attraction in the Vulcan hangar at Southend??

Good to see it saved, wherever it ends up.

Great footage, will have to pay a visit one day.

What’s the wing section at 0:40? (Olive Drab with RAF SEAC roundel) Is it B24?

“Speaking of which, if he didn’t enjoy flying her as much he hid it well”

Brilliant clip, thanks K5054. He does seem to be enjoying himself there!

A rather nice air-air shot with Mark at the controls.

He flew Mk.XIV NH799 out in NZ while it was in Sir Tim Wallis’ ownership, seem to remember him making a comment in one of the magazines about not liking it as much as a Merlin Spit.

Wow, they really look the part. I wonder what the plans are for these after filming? Donation to UK museums perhaps?? One wouldn’t look out of place at Rougham, Parham, Seething etc.

Just for clarity FNHT is a civilian charity, the old RNHF was disbanded a few months ago. I don’t for a minute think that this accident will be the end of the road for FNHT, they seem to be on a sound footing and they have other aircraft such as the two Swordfish and the SeaHawk as well as the single-seat SeaFury. They also seem to have very good relations with other operators who can potentially “fly the flag” for FNHT when stand-ins are needed.

I have my doubts that VX281 will ever be rebuilt, I’m pretty certain the costs of doing so would be above the asking price of another airworthy example. Very sad to see her in such a state, but also very glad to hear the crew are OK.

The idea of crowdfunding for repairs has been talked about in a couple of places, but I do wonder if crowdfunding for a Wildcat, Corsair, Seafire or Firefly would be a better option given the relative ease of maintenance of American radials and the RR V-12’s. We can but dream…

All the best to everyone at FNHT.

I wondered the same Bruce, odd to use locations that have no USAAF connections when there are so many that do.

I think Mothminor has nailed it, looks like a perfect match to me.

Sadly I can’t ID the wreck, but I feel pretty sure it’s a four-engine design. There appears to be a fourth engine lying on the ground in front of the port wing, and the right hand landing gear appears to mount behind what would be the “nose” engine of a tri-motor, making it the stbd inner/No.3 engine.
