RE: Most and least changed
I’d say the Spit would have to take the award for the most changed warplane, possibly of all time. There was barely a nut and bolt interchangable between the first and the last examples to come off the line.Something like the P51 comes close when you consider the change of engine, cut down fuselage and then the experimental long range/light wieght models.
One of the least changed for me would be something like the Fw189, the operatonal version being virtually unchanged from the prototype, which is a sign of a sound design from the outset.
RE: Swiss Airshow Exotica 2002
Excellent pictures Kenneth! You’re right about the scenery, that’s one hell of a backdrop,as if the aircraft weren’t enough! Thanks again Kenneth.
RE: Classic Airliners from Switzerland
Thanks for those Kenneth, that Dc-3 pic is magnificant! It’s good to see a Ju52 still being flown with authentic engines, the recently restored CAF example has gone the same way as the Lufthansa machine and has had P&W’s fitted with three-blade props.Tante Ju’s always look better with thier original engines and two blade props,so here’s hoping the P&W conversions don’t become too popular!
RE: Umpteen thousand rivets !
Know how you feel GZYL!I’m looking forward to seeing Mr.McHenry this year.Fingers, toes nad everything else crossed that AA and the CAA can work something out.
RE: Heads Up – 17th Feb
I skipped the fighter bombers thing and watched Aircrash on Ch.4 instead. Was pretty moving stuff, but the programme itself was a bit disorganised and had a rushed, mass produced feel about it.Can’t help thinking it couldn’ve been a little more sympathetically done, but still worth watching.Next programme is same time next week for anyone interested.
RE: The Worlds Last ST-25 Monospar…
Thanks for that Kenneth! To be honest I never realised there was a Monospar still in existance. They were built by General Aircraft Ltd just down the road from me at what was Hanworth Air Park.Sadly, the old GAL hangar was knocked down a few years ago to make way for a multiplex cinema-boooo hisssss. To add insult to injury, the builders found a load of paperwork in the hangar while they were demolishing it,and unfortunately it was set alight in a skip before anyone realised it’s value. The paperwork was thought to include blueprints for the GAL Cygnet and Owlet, which had been missing for years.Only two Cygnets survive, one at East Fortune and the other in a very poor state on an outdoor plinth in Argentina. So far as I know, this Monospar is only the third GAL aircraft anywhere in the world today (excluding bits and pieces of Horsa and Hamilcar assault gliders).
Looks like she’s kept in excellent condition, thanks again for the picture Kenneth.
RE: It was 60 years ago today – Valentines day 1943.
Nice work Snapper, all this research and organising a memorial aswell!
No mean feat, you deserve a pint or ten! 🙂
RE: Spitfire wreckage uncovered in India.
Cheers Merlin, interesting story.Certainly looks like a Spit, and a surprisingly complete one at that.
RE: Forum upgrade
Damien makes a good point! Is there no way the new one could be established and chekced before the old one goes out the window??
RE: Do you build kits? Stick em up
Here’s a few pics of my newly completed 1:72 Airfix Gloster Javelin.Sorry the pics aren’t great quality,I’m experimenting with a new digi cam.I’ve got a whole host of other kits on my shelves, and I’ll try and take some pics of em in the near future.I’m just getting started on the 1:48th Tamiya SeaHarrier FRS.1,and I’ve got an Me262,Tempest and a Sikorsky CH53 in various stages of completion, all in 1:72 scale.

RE: strange ones
I think the light blue/grey scheme on ‘434 was a high altitude fighter scheme rather than a Photo Recce one.A number of Mk.VIII’s & IX’s were used in this role to counter high flying German Recce aircraft.
Whose was the BT13 Valiant and what’s happenned to it?
RE: Mustangs
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 13-02-03 AT 00:23Â AM (GMT)]Some nice pics folks.I always thought those Memphis Belle colours looked rather good on a Mustang.Candyman is still with OFMC and she’s now painted up as Ferocious Frankie.
RE: Just found these more to follow various warbirds!
Agreed there Schanche,it’ll be good to see the Firefly back in the blue yonder.I only hope we will be able to say the same for WG655 in future. She’s currently under rebuild in Wiscounsin and is for sale.If there’s one thing we need here in the UK,it’s a SeaFury conversion trainer. It would aso be a bona fide warbird in it’s own right, and ofcourse it could take a passanger. 😉
RE: Duxford projects current status
BBMF don’t start operating in earnest until March at the earliest,so they still have about a month to complete the job.Judging by the pics,it looks like they might be finished sooner.I’d imagine that there’d be some proving flights around the Duxford area before she headed off back to Conningsby, and it would probably be done by one of the BBMF guys.
RE: Duxford projects current status
That paint job’s getting tastier by the layer! :9
