    Very nice model, the customer should be very happy!

    I’d always thought the yellow blade was for the benefit of ground operations (ATC, vehicles, other aircraft etc) so that it was obvious that the rotor was turning.

    Not a book as such, but here is a link to one of the RAF Historical Society’s Journals which covers the Airlift pretty extensively from a British perspective (the opening pages are about wartime Bomber Command, Airlift sections starts at page 33).

    Would dismantling into roadworthy sections mean cutting? I’m thinking a DC6 isn’t designed to break down into roadable sections.

    Looking forward to the pics, great to hear 655’s back airborne again. Congrats to everyone involved.

    I feel pretty sorry for SeaFury owners, they can either have the Centaurus and have lots of bills and reliability worries, or they can change it for something more practical and get lots of flak for it! I really don’t mind what engine it has, it’s worth remembering that Furies were flown with other engines back in the day, even a contra-prop Griffon. Needs must and it doesn’t detract from the looks, performance, handing etc.

    Edited to add: Great paintjob on the Chipmunk too, makes a very nice change from the gloss black!

    Do you have any details on the Typhoon project you mention, JT? Haven’t heard of it before. I know he has the Tempest II and Tempest V, a Typhoon would make a great trio!

    The IWM’s static Storch was sold a few years ago, not sure where it has ended up. The reason for the sale, and that of the Amiot Toucan (Ju52) around the same time, have never really been fully explained as far as I know.

    The wreck did a lot of mileage between being shot down and ending up at Dux, and the cowlings and lots of other components went walkies years ago. I personally love the preserved original paintwork, original wartime finishes are very rare and need to be saved whenever possible. Its a great, sympathetic restoration.
    Ideally, I’d love to see a spinner fitted at some point, although I’m guessing they don’t grow on trees…

    Thanks for the link CD, I’d never heard of this campaign either. Perhaps the continued use of balloons for covert recce and other tasks in the Cold War era meant that nobody wanted to shout too much about it? Being pretty low-tech it would also probably be quite easy for potential enemies to copy the concept.

    I think these are two separate Vampires, the 2015 race winner was N4861K, race number 24, which was then sadly written off during the 2016 races after the canopy broke up in flight and the engine ingested the debris.

    N172LA is race number 44 and currently wears a gloss black Swiss scheme.

    An interesting wreck, although I would think it’s way beyond salvation.

    As an aside, there is/was also a Gigant wing being used as a footbridge somewhere in the former Yugoslavia. Does anyone know if it’s still there? Would be great to see it saved.

    A very interesting film, a great shame some of it isn’t in the best condition. The most surprising thing aircraft-wise for me is the bright yellow Do17E in US markings at 32.45, never seen that one before.

    Interesting pictures Hudson, do you have any more? I’m not so sure these are “crash sites” as such, these look more like wrecks abandoned at airfields.

    Does anyone know what has become of the Allison-powered Boschung proposal? Are there still some progressing or will they now all fly with Merlins?
