RE: Duxford projects current status
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 30-01-03 AT 07:40 PM (GMT)]Hi Doughnut,
Yep,that manky Sabre was swapped for a perfectly good Meteor Mk4,and the RAFM were up in arms about it at the time, quite rightly in my opinion. The IWM were keen to get thier hands on an F86 in time for the opening of the AAM,and in thier haste they didn’t choose a particularly good example.Certainly the AAM Sabre wasn’t worth a Mk.4 Meteor! x(
In answer to Sadsack’s question,I seem to remember she’s painted-it just makes you wonder how much filler it’s covering up! lol
RE: Duxford projects current status
The former AAM Sabre is a complete lash up.I’ve seen better looking Airfix kits!It has the wings from one model, the fuselage from another etc etc,and so it doesn’t fit together properly.I think they might have plans to rework it and make it into something more presentable.
RE: Dambusters 60th Anniversary
Thanks for the heads up Neilly, sounds like an interesting event.Dunno what I’ll be doing that weekend, but hopefully I can make it.I’ve never been to Brooklands before either,so that’s a double incentive to go.Is one of the models gonna be your Mossie Neil??
RE: Duxford projects current status
That desert scheme sure looks tasty…:9
RE: Mystery Vulcan
Thanks for the feedback folks.Vulcans landing on a grass runway??!That must’ve been something to see!
The correct serial should be 7746M,sorry about that!
RE: Shorts Belfast
I heard the Africa rumour aswell, but it was in amongst all the others so I dunno how much credance to give it.What doesn’t make sense to me is the idea of taking an almost unique aircraft to some far distant land and then expecting to keep it in servicable condition.Even if they’ve bought G-BEPS,the spares ship from Southend,I can’t see how they would transport it,and where else are they likely to get spares??
I’d say the only way to operate her with a decent rate of servicability would be to keep her here.Operating her in some far flung continent would probably be a logistical nightmare.
RE: Which airshow performer do you miss the most.
Aircraft:P38,Mozzie(you don’t realise how much you miss something till it goes) and the Vulcan.
Pilots:Mark Hanna,Hoof Proudfoot and Norman Lees.
RE: Shorts Belfast
I’ve heard various stories about it’s new owner and intended location, from Australia to the Middle East. Some later stories seem to have put the two together and come up with a story that she’ll be operated under Aussie ownership in the Midddle East so I don’t quite know what to believe.
RE: Canada Aviation Museum Collection
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 24-01-03 AT 11:45 PM (GMT)]I’m with you Kev,I think the Beau and the NorthStar are my main concerns, although I agree with Phantom about the Dakota-that’s probably the worst DC-3 on public display anywhere! Why don’t they dismantle the Beau and store it indoors? It seems crazy just to leave it outdoors all these years, and they’re only adding to thier restoration tasks by leaving it there.Just to clarify the point, are these aircraft on public display or ‘stored’ in some quiet area away from public gaze?? I would be amazed if any UK museum would bother displaying aircraft in this condition, and I would guess that some of them would be judged a health and safety hazard if they were displayed over here. What sort of plans are there for restoring any of these airframes??
RE: Duxford projects current status
lol…Looks like a Swordfish windscreen to me.I think the hole on the screen is an aperture for a sighting device of some sort,so they haven’t butchered the screen for the sake of a giggle!
RE: Isn’t it about time Sally B was repainted.
Perhaps I should point out that Coastal Command never operated the Fortress III (B17G) so a CC scheme on Hendon’s example would be worse than sticking a Lanc on a perch!
You could repaint the B17 as a 100Group counter-measures machine, but you’d have to do a fair few mods to bring it up to that standard. All in all she’s probably best left in her 8th AF guise.
RE: Shorts Belfast
Hi ageorge,
When you put up a post or post a reply, you get an attachments box below the main one.You can post a pic via that.Click on ‘Click here to choose your file’,and you’ll be able to browse your computer and ferret out the pic you want.
I don’t know what the status of the Belfast is,and I’d be as interested as you to hear any news.

Hi Flybuff,
I can’t give you any information that would be too helpful to you,but you could try posting your request on the Flypast forum as the historical side of aviation is more thier thing.

Hi Neilly,
Cheers for the link! That start up clip is trully something!I also took the liberty of viewing the page on your scale RC model. You’re a bluddy genius mate! She looks absolutely superb. What’s the current state of progress? You got any air under the wheels yet??
