I found this clip and thought it would be appropriate to share it here. This is a clip of a display by the replica Southern Cross in NZ in 1990.

I know this replica was damaged a few years ago, is there any chance of it flying again?

The restraining chain was also known as “the Monkey Chain” to aircrew of the time.

Sticking my neck out a bit, but might it possibly have been a USAAF-style Olive Drab/Neutral Grey scheme? The squadron’s P40’s had the same kind of scheme just before the Mustangs arrived, and from the above and other pictures it seems that a number of RAF “Razorback” Mustangs in Italy had this style of scheme, eg. 250sqn.

    Just a suggestion.

Just Googled and found an online feature from Nov 2012. 🙂

Not the most up-to-date, but there was a feature about the restoration in an issue of Flypast within the last 12 months or so (presuming you mean the airworthy project). There were various progress pictures, including one of the aircraft standing on its wheels outside the hangar minus outer wings and other detail parts.

I could be wrong, but it looks as though the ‘wings’ are a couple of Vampire tailplanes.

It’s worth pointing out that the September listing is only provisional, and that there’s a note towards the bottom of the page saying that further participants will be “announced in due course”.

The line-up looks fine to me so far, perhaps I’m just easily pleased. 🙂

It might be best to publish it as an e-book, at least at first, rather than incurring the expense of publishing paper copies. I have no experience of e-publishing myself, but it is supposed to be relatively easy and inexpensive. It also means a lower purchase price for the customer, which encourages people to try new titles and authors.

If you’d like the text proof read I’d happily give it a read through for you, feel free to drop me a PM.

I have to agree with the idea of BBMF getting a third Hurri, although it would be nice if they didn’t have to sell anything in order to get hold of it. It would take deep pockets and a huge dollop of generosity, but it would be great to see one donated to the Flight. BBMF displaying without a Hurricane, as they sometimes have to, just doesn’t seem right.

A bit of a long shot I know, but you never know who’s reading this. 😀

The Battle Proms are underway at Hatfield House, The Blades performed earlier in the evening, and the Grace Spitfire displayed about an hour ago.

Targets across the Ruhr? I hope that’s a training exercise, those crew members look very German and that cockpit looks very much like a Ju52! 😀

Sounds like the Breitling Constellation heading to Fairford for RIAT at the weekend.
