Just a quickie regarding the fuselage extension plugs on the FA.2, I thought the first example had the plug but it was then decided to give the rest of the fleet a completely new rear fuselage?

Very sad news indeed, I never met him but I’d been in touch with him a few times in the last couple of years with regards to the planning issues and his struggles with MV District Council.

As others have said, a great loss to the movement, and here’s hoping the collection can be safeguarded in his memory.

The Cosford VC-10 wasn’t entirely scrapped, the forward fuselage is now at Brooklands. It was in BA colours at the time of the scrapping. You can still see a complete BOAC VC-10 at Duxford.

On a related note, does anyone know what became of the parts of these wrecks that were displayed at Millom? I seem to remember the Star-and-Bar bearing chunk of fuselage was displayed there, along with an engine.

Well yes, I’d go for that too. The basic point in my view is that a change is needed.

It’s been said above that a change of scheme wouldn’t make a difference, and in some cases that would be right. In this case though I’m convinced that changing the paint to something ‘catchy’ would help draw in extra money. The really great benefit of something like the “Latest Rumour” scheme is that it would surely please most people- it’s a genuine scheme that matches Sally B’s current turret layout etc, and it’s a very catchy, colourful scheme that will make people look twice. “Daddy, what’s that one with sharks teeth on?”.

I just don’t think the Belle scheme floats the public’s boat like it used to, and ofcourse the enthusiasts would be pleased to see a new look.

I seem to remember the Vacher Hurricane R4118 has a fully functioning gun firing mechanism, although ofcourse the guns are dummies/deactivated. There was a feature on the TV news about the first flight, and with the gun panels off the pilot demonstrated how the triggers went click when he pushed the fire button.

In most respects, Revell’s re-issues of Matchbox kits are very welcome as they covered such a broad scope of scales and subjects. Who else would be doing a 1:32 Lysander if Matchbox hadn’t done one? I built the 1:72 scale SB2C Helldiver recently, and although it needed work I was very pleased with it:
