Great topic, thank you.
Is there any recommended product(s) for dealing with aluminum corrosion?
I have the Mikesh book, and while lots of great stuff in it…it is from the perspective of a museum and resources they have.
Did they manage to salvage the remains of the wing tips and any other parts that dropped off?
Did the rest of the wing ends get recovered?
Yup, but only temporarily. Although i am sure temporarily will still be several years.
“Swamp Ghost will be one of the crown jewels in the Museum’s aircraft collection, with plans to restore this aircraft to static exhibit. While funds are raised for restoration, Swamp Ghost will be on display in a specially constructed outdoor exhibit, resembling the Papua New Guinea swamp in which it was found, the perfect backdrop for this historic artifact. Once restoration is completed it will join our other vintage aircraft inside Hangar 79 here on historic Ford Island. “
Although outdoors isn’t ideal, (i hope they can give it some cover), I rather like the idea of leaving it on display till restoration can begin.
Granted, as long as deterioration can be controlled.

I have accepted CGI is a necessity nowadays…but there is still a difference between good CGI and bad CGI. I reluctantly accept we will not see any aerial combat sequences in anything other than CGI.
Still, I hope they are able to have a good number of real planes at least on the ground, maybe taxiing and some nice gratuitous flybys. And considering the era we are in and there are not that many original or restored warbirds left…if an incorrect mark gets in there according to timeline, I would still be appreciative and not nit pick.
The artist does state: “This part comes from a private museum collection. All paintwork is by me, M Kittridge.”.
I am not familiar with Typhoons to know if the panel is original.
I think I would wet myself if I had dug this up. But has that badge been re-touched?

I am wondering…is there a bit of a shifting of policy at NASM now regarding the restoration of airframes and keeping things in original camo? I think it is great to for example see the 163, even in it’s rough shape with original markings, etc. Or is this just a temporary display till it is on the resto schedule.
Interested as well.
TY
Hi chaps, I should have more of an idea next week with regards to price. Anyone else interested in one?
BF109 Rudder and/or Parts
Seeking BF109 Rudder and/or parts. F/G preferred, but not exclusive.
I have never heard of rearmament, secret or otherwise. From the small amount I understand of postwar german (west) military, the first talks of rearmament of West Germany began quietly (but not secretly) in 1950, only 5 years after the war.
But I have read postwar information on the debriefing of German Military personel. A lot of detail in particular was collected on teaching the West how to deal with any potential conflicts with the Soviet military.

Nicely painted (could even consider picking it up as a nice piece of art myself), but it is not a 109 panel.
It has ended, hope someone didnt get taken.
Piece of “original” Me-109 nose art (but is it ?)…
.
Actually, after looking a bit more, I believe it is bottom of left side, frames 3 and 4.
While certainly time consuming, I really like this type of work, the extra effort to restoring/rebuilding using only original components as much as possible.
Not every restoration has to be flying.
Nice work.
This took two of us about a month to build…it’s a conglomeration of original and new build parts BUT! the newly made parts are made from…scrap Barracuda! Yup, see all those rib booms for example? They are made to the correct section from the original Fairey drawings from tattered old bits of Barracuda skinning etc, making the elevator 100% original Barracuda material…nifty huh?
