    Hobby master do a few…

it seems that the “RN Beryl The Peril” was mismarked, with RN not French navy markings. They do a few varients, Corgi will bring one out soon but if you are fussy like me, it will put you off as underneath it will have a big black “corgi” stamp – I heard that is because they were made by HM for Corgi who had some production problems. Flying Mule website has 4 or 5 pics per model, have a shufty there. I find generally that the hobby master models are very good, I have an F-14 in Japanese markings, Iraqi MIG-21, A-10 as well as the RNZAF avenger

    The USAF needs airframes fast..

George W has them spread pretty thin, Robert Dorr has written a couple of good pieces about the F-15’s in particular, with quotes of from the head of ACC saying that he has wire fires and structural issues. I think that the F-15 line is still open for Korea and Singapore, so they could slap some on the end of that BUT then the F-22 crowd will start. The Super Hornet is an option maybe? – Whatever they choose it will take a couple of years to get airframes to air crews. USAF purchasing is a lobbying nightmare (CSAR helicopter anybody…..) and all the while, the poor blokes in the field have to worry about the bad guys plus their aircraft condition, thats not right surely.:(

Why can’t the CAA be as open minded as the South Africans for example?

I have a pet theory that the CAA have a man in a van at Bruntingthorpe with a few Stingers in case somebody gets carried away on a hi speed taxi run.

do you have the crowood aviation book on the Corsair?

page 19 – has a Brewster poster featuring F4U production, as a “logo” much like the pilots wings above, not sure it will scan well, but will try if you like?

not so much don’t like, more that they seemed to be incorrect, RN not French Navy as per the details above. No matter now, have made room for the RNZAF version now.

has to be XH558 for me, its been too long – and maybe an F-14 into a museum, Cosford cold war is “sealed” it seems, Duxford (It is alleged by some…) turned one down, Fleet Air Arm say it is not a relevent airframe, 😡

not that I recall, not my real area of knowledge though!

still, I went for this in the end, you tell me that this isn’t worth the price, it was less than £20!!

    I agree…

was more asking for “help” before I chose – its a growing industry it seems, more and more manufacturers coming through, hence more ideas, more competition which for a buyer is good news! If you buy these at all, check out a “model zone” shop, the drop the prices nicely!

    Interesting….

seems colours are OK, but roundels are wrong on the die-cast? It does give me the ‘ump when they charge money and don’t do the research, some of these die-cast models are superb (I’ve got about 65 odd now) far better than I can do with plastic kits with air brush etc. Corgi are now banging out fully rigged bi-planes (Gladiator and Swordfish) – WW1 SE5a etc in the pipeline, but then they (and others) drop clangers like this. They do an all black special ops Lysander but it keeps the old message retrieval hook from early and pre WW2 use for example. I picked up the RNZAF Avenger in the end, just need to convince the wife that it will make a decent Xmas gift for her….

Yes, I dont think I have yet seen a correctly modelled Merlin engine in any scale, in any model. My favourite was a Spit Mk VIII on the front of Scale Models some years ago, with Griffon engine bearers…

    Bruce

Hobbey master (so far..) have been verygood so you may get lucky, just heard that Corgi are recalling the grey Vampires.

    a fine fine book

often imitated, even now (Blue man falling anybody, american pilots who know it all, French-African soldiers decapitating prisoners….) I think the TV show was a best effort to capture a huge book, possibly ahead of its time in being almost “revisionist” in terms of depicting pilots as people, this is out on DVD now I think, certainly on Region one format – imagine what they could do today with this with CGI…. mind you, if it was CGI then you would know that ray hanna didn’t fly under that bridge it was all pixels, not the same is it?!

    thats what bugs me….

OK, I should have researched before I ordered it, but it took me less than 2 days to research it, the 6 Squadron association were really helpful ( and less than impressed!) and I’m sure they would have got help from Hatfield! The 112 Squadron one planned would have been interesting as well. Die-cast suppliers seem to be coming out of the woodwork now so maybe somebody else will put one out. That said, there is a choice of thousands that they have not touched yet. Little Russian/Japanese choice (IXO do some but the quality is a little lower than the others), Beaufort, Battle, Hampden, Shackleton, Boston/Havoc, B-26, A-26, F-101, F-100 etc etc etc….

Thank you for the update !

Marketing, a dream for any Dilbert fan! – The 6 Squadron Association were really helpful (mailed me a few B&W pictures of the real aircraft) and they were going to contact Corgi. When I look at the quality of the gemeni aces and hobby master that I have just got, it puts a question to Corgi. Hobby master are about to bring out griffon engined spit XIV’s (1/48 scale) – very unusual….

Corgi are all over the place at the moment….

some models late, others early and I have found the quality has not been up to scratch. I’ve picked up a few Gemeni Wings and Hobby Master (who I think, supply Corgi with their “predator” line, hence the naff big Corgi logo stamped underneath) The quality of these is far higher, tend to find Corgi and Dragon Wings a bit “pacifist” and lacking stores! Only Corgi could bring out a Typhoon with no rockets! – just found on another thread that my Corgi vampire is blue/grey and not silver! The pricing is odd as well, my local Model Zone tends to cut its Corgis prices up to 50% a few months after release (Swordfish, JU-88, Lysander) Sometime in 2008 though, Corgi will do a Blenheim and an ME110 (as will Hobby Master) enjoy the competition as a consumer !
