I was just thinking of Squadron – lots of stock footage, I have a strong memory of a Phantom shooting down a Jaguar in (maybe) the first episode ?

    Pretty poor if memory serves?

I just finished the book and it mentions this forum and “that” thread several times and I find myself posting for the first time in over three years, and that last post was five years on I think……… It’s an interesting read, slightly odd as it weaves in fictional threads to build up the context for the alleged burial of the aircraft. Other than that, have I missed much 😉

I’m no expert Daz but it may well have been deliberate to appear as desert camo when the film is shown in monochrome, or at least that knowing how colour scheme needed a contrast to show camouflage effect. What I’m trying to say is that colours vary when shot in mono chrome so a desert scheme may look like two tone grey when filmed, so they used a scheme that would simply provide a contrast.

Blue skies Barry, I only knew you through our exchanges here and a little on Facebook, but you were well liked and well loved and your passion for all things aviation and Spitfire shone through. Sleep well.

I don’t think I’ve posted here for a couple of years, too many spats (like this) for my taste but I still take a look every now and again. I saw this via a popular and well known social media site and felt compelled to make a comment. If it wasn’t for the efforts of people like those involved on the project, all us armchair fans would have is pictures. No hands on, nothing tactile, nothing real. I hope that you can stick with it, and maybe get some valid, workable support from the critics, a public “pop” isn’t helping at all, but I appreciate the effort, it means I have something to show my children, tangible and real that brings history alive.

    Ceuta and Melilla

The Mediterranean enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla are the last vestiges of Spanish rule in northern Morocco, which ended in 1956.
They have been European territories for more than 500 years, and Madrid insists it will not relinquish control of either.

Together they occupy 32 square kilometres, and are home to about 120,000 mainly Spanish residents.

    I rest my case.

Thanks for the heads up Sage the Owl.

If anyone out there is interested I think that I now have the definitive list of stories that feature the Westland Whirlwind. Please let me know and I’ll send a PM and/or post it here.

    Paul

I would love to see that list Paul, please post it of you can.

Despicable Me 2, there is a flat bit in the middle 20 mins when the “plot” drags, but the visual jokes from the Minions, as per, are hysterical. The mickey take of boy bands is priceless…..

I think its just wonderful, a genuine piece of Battle Of Britain history, not in A-1 condition, but it will be preserved and conserved, a fine effort all round.

I have about 145 or so of different sizes and scales. I have a nice large display cabinet from Homebase, Ikea do a good range, getting them behind glass is an idea as the dust will soon build and one day something will go “ping” when you are dusting it off.

I have the Grand Slam Lanc and its in a cabinet, with a mirror underneath it so you can see the bomb (along side F-102 and F-106 with the missiles hanging out of the weapons bay)

size wise, my largest is a stupid 1/48th B-24 purchased on impulse, and regretted ever since……. it sits on top with smaller but equally silly 1/48th B-25 and B-26 !
