Thank you Mark – I have PM’d David as well, I appreciate the fast postings and the info – very kind of you, thank you.
Thats the one Mark! – Thank you, do you know any more? Unit, location etc – thank you
My son is studying the London Riots of a few years ago in school and we talked over the causes. Depravation, poverty, lack of jobs etc – I mentioned also the possibility that the folk who started it had little fear of any real punishment for being caught……. there is a “me” and “mine” culture in many areas of the country and everybody knows their “Rights”….. I have a right to park across Paul178’s drive way….. so I will. It seems everybody hides behind their rights, when surely should you wish to hide behind your rights you must first respect and acknowledge everybody elses. And if you do get caught throwing rocks at a police car, you get punished – a prison term or to quote Robert Shaw in The Battle of Britain, “Give ’em a b****y shovel” and make them clear it up.

Interesting thread, I recall a documentary a few years ago (BBC maybe? It will probaby surface on the History channel or some such every week…..) which went over the Mirage theory, I am not sure what a single seat supersonic fighter could observe (from cloud?) that a ground observer could not – but I am not an expert. There was also some detail on the lengths that the Russians went to, so they could at least observe the Concorde programme which included taking samples of tyre remnants left on runways etc.
Latest update:
So, Rudolph Hess crashed in Scotland to perfect his accent before MI-5 hid him in the Warmington Upon Sea home guard ??? 😎
as for the DO-17, cudos and credit to them, it has to be an inexact science, and if children only want to see shiny new stuff in museums and can’t bothered to read the info that is there and learn, then they don’t deserve the museum do they ??
I would rather see 50% of a preserved/conserved wreck than 0% of nothing…..
amazing piece of work, so good to see some life in this part of the forum as well ! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for that David Layne, I never knew that he was married and lost his son a month before the raid. Tragic.
I’ve been to his and his crews graves. I’m not sure much can be gained by going over this. I’m sure they did their best.
I mean no disrespect to anybody David, it is a piece of history that I was interested in as in a lot of what I had read there is not much detail about Sgt Anderson and his crew and it was a general question.
My apologies if you felt there was any other meaning in my question, I don’t mean to second guess anybody 70 years on, it was genuine interest in the history and the story.
I was there last year. I was allowed to sit in the cockpit of the Spitfire as a friend helps out at the museum (he is a keen model maker as well and I try and do a bit of research for him) and as a “thank you” they let me have a go in the pilots seat. It is a nice friendly museum with some interesting bits and pieces and well worth a visit.
Star trek – Into Darkness – have to say I loved it, great fun, loud, decent story, 2 hrs of entertainment….

It never ends………
My old boss, who was a nasty, evil bully of the worst kind told me to take some time off to touch my inner self………..
A week or so ago my patience was exhausted when somebody started going on about the “democracy of technology” -:sleeping::stupid: at that point, I made an excuse and left the meeting and went home.
