My 8 year old is getting hooked on this…

Like all boys, he has a short attention span at the moment, we lurch from dinosaurs, to Dr Who, with a brief flirtation with Power Rangers. But he has taken my BoB DVD with him on a few trips to stay with grandad and when we watch TV, its often a movie of choice. My work here is done I think, and when we were at the Legends show in July, after watching one of the Spits land, he looked at me and said “You can teach, Monkies to fly better than that” – a bit harsh on the display pilot but I was chuffed!

    SE-5A

I saw one in a case in Model Zone today – looks good, whatever their problems, the bi-plane idea seems spot on to maybe aim at some unusual releases?

    F-14

I keep hearing rumours that Duxford declined, the RN Fleet Airm Museum said it wasn’t relevent, Cosford would have been a good home for it.

I think it was Sea Hawks but….

have to admit its quite a way outside of my usual area of interest! I guess if they had any standoff weapons as well, I can’t recall the code names but I think TU-16 carried those HUGE missles (Kangaro?)

I’m with you on the Fury

couldn’t wait to get mine. I also love the Corgi Swordfish and Gladiator. Not sure what I’ll do on the Halifax. The Desert airforce version looks also to be slightly in error, I can’t find a photo but my Osprey book on the Halifax says that it had 4 bladed props outboard due to different mark Merlins? But then again, who is to say that the aircraft never flew in the paint scheme with 3 blades on all engines? In terms of what I just picked up :

I also have a couple of century wings (A-6 and an F-14) that are good, A-7 planned next. I need to change my user ID, I’m at work and this posting won’t go down well !

will be interesting to see how Corgi pan out…

I’ve had a moan about them on here with the faff up on the “Grey” vampire but they were the first ones I started getting in, but Hobby Master have caught them up in quality and cost, Gemeni are good as well, if with a limited 1/72 range. IXO are just weird in what they do. Check out the Hobby Master F-104 in the subdued japanese markings with sharkface, check that out and tell me that its not an object of beauty….!;)

    here you go lauriebe

In the current “combat aircraft” magazine, P71. In a feature on the Indonesian AF, it says on a TU-16 caption “were used during the putative attempts to bring Malyasia under Indonesian control, carry out airspace incursions, leaflet drops and (albeit uncorroborated) an undetected sortie to alice springs. I was curious I have to say. RAAF would have had Mirage III at the time, would have been interesting!

    actually, scrap that….

with the RAF being so under resourced they will probably be forced to put them back into active service……..;)

actually, we should keep this quiet….

You just know that some PC control freak 😡 will find somebody or a group that are offended by the BBMF and our “beloved” leaders will suddenly decide that we should be ashamed of them and hide them away. Or am I a premature “Grumpy”…..?;)

    Didn’t the requirement keep changing?

Heard also that the RAF had their heart set on the Boeing and made the flip flops at GEC jump through hoops on an ever changing requirement, plus I remember some concerns about over land performance of the radar being a bit flakey? RAF saw that as an issue as taking Tornados out on long range over water intercepts was OK, but land ops were a problem? I’m not an expert by any means so can’t even state this as fact, just some recollections. As for the comments above of defence projects, I read “lions, donkeys and dinosaurs” a while back, not 100% objective at times but it will make you weep….:(

    I’ve seen images in 2 tone green/grey

Reading all this bought back memories of reading a comic, must been late 70’s early 80’s. It was a “Victor” or “Warlord” (anybody else my age!?) anyhow, there was a write up on how a global crisis could unfold. Concorde would have been (according to the comic) impressed into service as SST courier planes flying diplomats around the world. They had one painted up in the grey/green wrap around similar to V-bombers of the time.

The Robert Jackson book has some great pic’s

One of XH-498 at the point of impact, and a few of three Vulcans on the ground, can’t make out the serials. The text says 4, 3 in the images as one was damaged – and the written text describing says 4 – don’t mean to start a my dad is bigger than your dad type of thing,am just quoting the text, it goes on to say that XH498 flew out 7 months later, returned home and later became an instuctional airframe. Hope you can post the piccies. Read today that they may at one stage, paint 558 in the 60’s white scheme, that would be cracking:)

    617 I think

they sent 4 aircraft ona tour in 1959, XH498 undershot the runway at Wellington and crash landed at Ohakea. It was repaired and flown out 7 months later (quick check in the Robert Jackson Vulcan book)
