Armstrong Whitworth A.W.650/660 ARGOSY
Price: £10.50No. 71 in the Warpaint series
The original specification for the aircraft that ultimately resulted in the Argosy started as a compromise between a civilian freighter and a military general purpose transport aircraft. When the civilian version did not attract sufficient attention from operators who were caught up between cheaper second-hand piston-engined freighters and the new pure jets then entering service, it was the Royal Air Force that gave a fresh lease of life to this turboprop aircraft when it was adopted as its standard tactical transport aircraft. Though its achievements have remained largely unsung, the Argosy gave loyal service in the United Kingdom as well as in the Near, Middle and Far East, acquitting itself with honour, even when operating in zones that proved inaccessible to other aircraft. This new Warpaint title gives an insight into all this, as well as details of operators and colour schemes relating to this subject which for the most part has remained neglected.
Available from leading stockists world wide or by direct mail from Warpaint Books. Ordering information and addresses on the last page.
Am I correct in thinking that there aren’t that many dedicated publications on the Armstrong Whitworth Argosy ?
And this is tomorrow! 🙂
And this is not the usual altitude to fly an Ilyushin IL-18 with gear up…
http://flugzeugbilder.de/show.php?id=832827 🙂
Piper Cubs can fly low as well, especially if they are used for cropdusting. 😉
See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jWufkTHbj8 and you’ll know what I mean.
I don’t really want to think about what kind of chemical they were spraying over those Colombian fields back in 1957… 😮
Road trip to Amsterdam sounds good beats flying anyday.
Flying for instance in the Dakota…no booze no cheap fags no comfy seats or beds. get their because the daks needed its got to be a quick job so no delights of amsterdam and the ferry will workout cheaper :dev2:

Adding insult to injury…
Yes, adding insult to injury or throwing oil on the campfire… :diablo:
According to http://www.scramble.nl/forum/viewtopic.php?p=324991#p324991 at 13.00 hrs this Thursday German Luftwaffe Transall C-160 50+42 just delivered a spare Merlin engine at Amsterdam Airport… 😮
It was what we in Holland call a “bliksembezoek” of only one hour, loosely translated to a “Blitz visit”… :diablo:
I don’t doubt the source and his pictures of the Merlin being offloaded from the Transall can also be seen here:

As of yesterday evening, taken from
http://www.scramble.nl/forum/viewtopic.php?p=324929#p324929 …
A new engine is being trucked over (Hull-Rotterdam ferry) as the BBMF could not find RAF air transport. The engine itself was no problem: they currently have 13 RR Merlins in stock…
Schiphol has a bad ju-ju for visiting planes…
Nahhhh… Let’s not be superstitious shall we ? :diablo:
The latest word from

Lancaster parked inside the DDA hangar. (Btw, the crew have found the cafe at East 😉 )
Well, the good people of the Dutch Dakota Association certainly DO know how to play host to foreign historic aviation visitors… 🙂
Fantastic place to go u/s !
Well, at least they were able to get her under a roof. And these days RAF Hercules frequent Schiphol-East almost every weekend…
Perhaps we will now see a “working day arrival”. 😀
And this is tomorrow already! 😀
That P148/149/Do-27 meet in Germany
Okay, back on topic 🙂
Martijn, I presume you already know about the “P148/149/Do-27 meet” from Friday the 31st of July to Sunday the second of August at Damme in Germany, 36 kms northeast of Osnabruck?

Yes, after one minute it gets rather interesting ! Thankfully both pilot and Weapon System Operator got good chutes… 🙂
Mehrabad Airport is not one of the usual places to receive pictures from, let alone videoclips like these ! 😮
This trailer certainly helps you getting into the mood again ! 🙂
It is based on Antwerp Airport, although I am looking into different options it will possibly stay there for at least this season.
@Stratofreighter: Depending on the weather -I might be needed as an assistant on a baloon flight- I and my chief pilot might be visiting the Fare on saturday.
Antwerp is indeed not round the corner for you, but I think Deurne is a lot more “general aviation friendly” than our “home field” Rotterdam… 😡
Fingers crossed the balloon flight can go ahead, there will be no rain tomorrow apparently. If not, then you’re welcome at the DSC! 🙂
