Thanks Papa Lima and LBARULES, when i get people thanking me it actually makes it feel like it was worth taking all the time it did! And for anyone else planning to visit STN, hope ya take note! It’s perhaps not as easy as many of you may be used to at your ‘local’ airports.

Great pictures MEA. When did you take them? You were very lucky to get the flashing beacon on that Turkish -800, I’ve managed to do it 3 times in all the photo’s I’ve taken (Twice on an Aurigny Saab 340, and once on a PIA 747). It’s just a matter of luck really, unless you have a DSLR where you can take about 30 shots at a time!

I do find the previous 2 remarks childish yes, and I do agree with what Kev is saying. And the previous 2 remarks go against everything that we’ve all been complainign about and trying to change for a long time, but I think raising the minimum age to 18 is stupid. Do you see me making remarks like the previous ones? And how about all the other forum members under 18 (The likes of LBARULES, Britannia etc)?

I’m always listening to my Scanner for all the flights coming into STN, I’ve noticed there’s been an increasing number of female pilots on both Ryanair and Easyjet, particularly Easyjet. Maybe as many as 1 in 5.

It’s about 3 quarters of the way up the M11 motorway between London and Cambridge. From London you have to go up past Stansted, then it’s about 20 miles from there (50 Miles from Central London roughly). I’ve been there many a time, only half hours drive away. Flew in the Dragon Rapide once 😀

And finally spot 3. In my opinion the best of the bunch, aslong as they’re on RWY05.

Spot 2 (As I said, nearly impossible for good shots)

Spotting Spot 3-Approx Distance from terminal=2.4Miles

Although this is the same distance from the terminal as the first spot, the walk is more interesting as you pass several things on the way, including the control tower (tallest in the UK) and the FLS Diamond Hangar (where my dad works! 😀 ) Security rarely bother you here, but do occasionally stop to make sure you’re not doing anything illegal. DONT touch the fence! I dont understand what their problem is, but if you touch the fence you’ll almost certainly have security on your back.

What it’s best for: Very good for RWY05 arrivals. Planes fly over very low and you can watch them touch down as you look down onto the runway. It can also be used to watch departures on RWY23, and they will be retracting their gear at the point they fly over.

How to get there: Out of the terminal turn right, and you will soon see a bridge that goes across the railway line, and leads to the staff carparks. Go across the bridge but try not too stop for too long when you’re walking across. Once onto the other side, follow the road down in the direction of the control tower. You will soon pass the tower, and continue along the same road. After a while you will reach a junction wih a set of traffic lights, turn right here and follow the road round as can be seen on the map. After a while you will pass the FLS hangar, and a bit further along the road you should start to see some activity (whether it be planes arriving, or aircraft holding for the runway). A bit further along and you will find yourself almost under the flight path, climb up the bank and enjoy!

Spotting spot 2 is marked on the map above. It can be reached fairly easily from Spot 1, but requires about an extra 0.75 Mile of walking. There are no roads which is a good thing, just soggy footpaths marked out by the airport Land Rovers that drive along them! You will soon notice once you are there as there is a bank, running along a hedge which runs next to a road! You can stand on the bank wand watch both arrivals and departures, and you can see most of the terminal from there. Not good at all for taking photos, as the runway is actually lower than where you are standing, which raised land in the middle. but quite good just to watch the aircraft come and go.
