Tony Cooper rang me this morning. He is delighted to see AB910 in his 64 Squadron colours. He is in great shape, now 99…and still driving his rather rapid BMW. 🙂
Interestingly he had actually flown AB910 as an instructor when it was at 53 OTU Hibaldstow and witnessed the flight on its tail by WAAF Margaret Horton. He remarked that she just jumped off as it stopped on the runway…and lit up a cigarette.

With all of these threads about two seat Spitfires offering rides to the public, I wonder, how much for a ride on the tail of AB910 😀

I will never forget this, nor the groundbreaking restoration work that was done in your shop!
What you folks would have completed in a couple of years, won’t be finished in a couple of decades.
Absolute pity.
Thanks for all of the efforts gang. I’d sure love to sit and have a pint with you folks. Bit hard from Canada though.

The Fleet Air Arm Museum has pulled the plug on the Barracuda, or rather, on the amazing work that the Bluebird team was doing. Bit of a sore spot.
The “Barra” left their shop today (Saturday Feb 7).
A real shame and a loss to any enthusiast. The work being done was nothing short of ground breaking.
Sorry for the hijack.
Andy
Was thinking the same thing!
Andy
I guess the unveiling will be in the autumn of the year…… ……..never!
Andy
I’d like to add my voice to the many, who have expressed their thanks, for posting all of the wonderful images on this thread.
Thank you folks.

World class indeed!
The only thing missing is an SR-71.
Bodo served as an emergency out base on several occasions.
Thanks Mark 12, for taking the time to post all of these wonderful images.
Much appreciated.

Would it be possible to get some sort of petiton or letter of protest together to send to the relevant parties?.If protests were made higher up the chain we may be able to shame them into retracting their ridiculous decision, or at least explain how they came to it.
I would happily sign such a petition.
Plain and simple, this decision is a mistake!!
Andy
Bill, I’m so sorry to hear this.
What a pi$$ poor decision.
The work you and your crew did is nothing short of amazing. How idiotic to kick this kind of talent to the curb.
Reading the “Barra” diary has been a real highlight for me. Such skill in restoration and in writing.
Hasn’t the poor “Barra” suffered long enough. All those years up a hill or soaking in a bog?
Shame on the FAAM.
Take care Bill. My best to the team.

Thanks, as usual, Matthias.
Great images.
Can you find out how many hours are expected between overhauls for these DB’s?
Just curious.
Vintage V-12’s must have a Daimler division. Seems like a lot of these engines are in demand!
Andy Scott
Thanks for the link.
One to watch for sure. Looking good.

Agreed, camera work was O.K.
Commentator, as is often the case, was painful to listen to, especially with the echo and reverb.
Youtube clips work best with commentary coming from the subject 🙂
Hey Tom
Something I have had success with, while using the “double nut” method, is to tap on your wrench with a hammer while trying to loosen the stud.
Place a load on the wrench and tap it in the desired direction.
Andy
Cool thread.
Thanks guys. You have some great shots on those flicker accounts.
I’ve been to Vintage wings a few times. It’s a great collection and some great folks.
