Rubbish article. That Fisher “expert” has no clue what he’s talking about. That’s probably the Shenyang contender that lost to Chengdu J-20. Must be half a decade old or more.
Yes, there are 3 UV-50 chaff& flares dispensers in the beaver tail (one facing down). As for the first image, i think those conformal antennas are perhaps part of the navigation system (or navigation and something else), there was a prospect posted recently showing what they are, but can’t remember where i saw it…
Surprising poor diction and rather chaotic organization of that brochure.:) That being said, indeed there’s hardly any mention about an AESA except maybe once (“EASA”?). So what’s the difference between the Kfir block 60 and Kfir C10 then?
Few years ago they have signed a big contract with the russians for Mi-17s, Tor, Buk, Pechora (upgrade), ZSU-23-4 upgrade (with Iglas) and probably other things that escape me, which was payed with EGYPTIAN money so the precedent is there. Imo, i would think with the military being in charge now, they know full well that whatever the americans gave them (F-16 , M1A1 etc.), was horribly downgraded and restricted to be near useless (other than propaganda imo, it looks “good” to have 240 F-16s and 1000 M1A1s, but no so good when it come to their capabilities). The technological gap between them and the israelis continuously grew in the last decades, so perhaps that strategical situation doesn’t look too good to the egyptian leadership. This alleged 4 billion deal with the russians in the making (anything other than critical systems like SAMs and fighters would be a waste imo), and also that alleged JF-17 license production will help redress that to a more acceptable level.
Would be nice to see some egyptian MiG-35, Su-35 and S-300 in the near future.:)
Yes, looks like 055 was painted in VVS colours, grey top, light blue bottom (the insider said “like Su-35”, so i’m assuming same colours). Would make a change from the rather monotone (by now) splinter cammo.
Perhaps it should be the other way around ?(yes i know where the above comes from)
Maybe even VVS grey on top? (speculating)
Snippet of info from couple of days ago. If i got it right, T-50-5 made two more flights then it went (or will shortly go) into the paintshop. After that it will be sent to LII.
first picture ever for two Iraqi MiG-29s from 39 Sqn at Al-Qadsia AB
Thanks, but the information is false and the image photoshoped. Those two MiG-29 (likely SM) are syrian.
I’ve been out of touch the past few months due to work commitments so I’m not fully up to date, if ever I was, so I’ve more than likely missed something as things seem to change on a daily basis with Typhoon. To my, somewhat limited at the moment, knowledge there’s been no signed contract when it comes to actually purchasing a number of Captor-Es for each Typhoon operator, however, despite this integration of the Captor-E has been underway for sometime already and there is a Typhoon based at BAE Warton with Captor-E installed and is due for it’s maiden flight in ’14.
Little to no information regarding what the RAFO (Oman) will feature on their Typhoons has been released, but taking into mind the time/delivery schedule of the aircraft and the Captor-E’s Roadmap, they will likely have Captor-E, quite possibly the ‘Radar-1’ variant which is an export model. There are three variants, ‘Radar-1’, ‘Radar-2’ and ‘Radar-3’.
As for Tranche 3B. As far as I know the partner nations haven’t signed anything due to economy concerns. I wouldn’t be surprised if Tranche 3Bs are exported, to the likes of Oman and Saudi Arabia and such.
Thank you EELightning for your input. So there are no numbers vehiculated for Tranche 3B? Regarding the Captor-E, i was reading a snippet (not sure how accurate) somewhere that it won’t be fully operational (or capable) until 2021, that being “Radar 3” standard i assume? Any idea what each of these stages (Radar 1, 2, 3) encompass ? Thanks again.
At least 3 (but probably 4) Mi-35M ready for delivery, either from today or few days ago.

Not exactly my “domain”, but curious, what are the plans in regard to the AESA? I understand Tranche 3A won’t have it, when is it scheduled to be integrated? Will Oman have the AESA? Is there a Tranche 3B for the 4 partner nations planned ? Thanks.
It’s just an instrumentation/testing pod, most likely ukrainian made. I could swear i read in another place what is it called but can’t recall now (that’s couple of years now).
Great info as usual, thanks Jo.

Great stuff, keep it coming guys!
A bit OT, any idea what air defence systems they have ? I was reading about intentions to buy Tor, anything came of that?
Might be mistaken, but wasn’t there news recently that the yanks forbid the israelis to export the EL/M-2052 to India? Here’s what i found:
