One think i’ll say about this MiG-29 discussion. Judging your oponent and his machines by how YOU do things and by how YOU design your aicraft is a classic mistake. The russians designed and used their aircraft in their own way. Of course the americans and the westerners will think everything about the MiG-29 and how it’s used is wrong and “inferior” because this is not how THEY do it!

For the russians though , it was aparently exactly the tool they thought it’s most fit for their purpose. That’s why the had about 800 of them in 1991, right?

In 1990 or 1991 if the big game would have happened then, the USAF and their allies would have been in a rather tight spot at the hand of the MiG-29s ( and Su-27 too), all that close combat training for the yanks and their alies rudely canceled out and at best ( for them) even out by the HMS and R-73 (no , don’t give me that ” oh but in testing and training it proves it’s not that good , R-73 is a flare eater etc). IF the big game would have started then , there would have been NO testing and training , and how good or bad the HMS and the R-73 and the MiG-29 really was, it would have been found at the price of many F-16 and F-15 and other assorted allied jet’s wrecks in those few weeks (at most).

But then no one would have been left to tell us the “score”, unfortunately.
