Thanks Dave, its sickening that our heritage gets treated this way, the pic i refered to was supposed to have been taken in the late 70’s. not that long ago really.

Hiya, i have owned quite a few Saab cars including two 9000 ones. one a 9000’s and the other a 9000 cd-xs, both were exellent cars and served me well. the only thing to watch i found was th front brake calipers can stick, best to have them serviced properly to avoid this. i have owned some old shape 900 models too. and a 9-3 turbo cabrio. thats an awesome car. but out of the three types the old 900 handles best. the 9000 is the best family car and load lugger and the 9-3. well, fast as you like and pose factor without comparison really.

my last Saab, a 900i 16v was writen off by a stupid (insert derogatory term questioning parentage here) driving on the wrong side of the road round a bend. still waiting for the insurance to sort that mess out.

I rememeber seeing a pic of a lancaster in (iirc) a swiss lake said to be a 617 aircraft, it looked remarkably intact. anyone got any idea on what happened to this one?.

Agreed about the will and way bit, i used to cycle to Leeds train stn, take the train to Newark nth gate and cycle to the museum. occasionally i would spend the night in Newark at a B&B and be back there on the sunday too. age wasn’t an issue either as i started going when i was about 16 or 17.

    all the best.

I for one have been lucky enough to be invited to sit in various aircraft, vintage, cavvie and military. wearing an ATC uniform helped when i was in my teens, being a volunteer at a museum helped too. (Newark and Aeroventure) at Coventry i was shown round several of their aircraft and invited to sit in the pits as i wanted photos, i declined politly because as i said to the museum member (sorry can’t rememeber his name) anyone climbing in causes wear and tear. one exeption was the Lightning, who can resist sitting in one of those beasts 😀 currently i am ivolved in a Jet Provost T4 restoration and as the aircraft will one day be live and taxyable i – and the rest of the crew – am careful about what gets left where. we have no qualms about people who are agile enough having a look at the at the moment rather bare cockpit but when she is getting the wireing and instrument panel fitted this will become an issue, it will be up to the aircrafts owner (a forum member here) as to who is allowed inside. and this will be strictly supervised as people can be light fingered (ie thieving gits) and heavy fingered (ie breaking stuff) that and when leaving potential fod items outside the aircraft some may leave their brains outside 😉
on a personal note, this thread has as has been said runs the risk of being a ‘trolling’ thread or flame fest’. i am sure you all agree that we are all adult enough here to avoid that situation. please keep it friendly. young ones do read these pages.

    all the best.

OOOOH, I feel a little bit of model kit bashing coming on, any ideas what colous the original model would have been in?. I have an interest in research and development aircraft and have the old Frog/Novo model Attacker unbuilt in my collection. 😀

    cheers,

I saw it outside one of the hangers a couple of weeks ago and haxe been told there was a 748 seen on approach a few days after that. can anyone confirm it was this one?. btw, its still in its RAF colours but i couldn’t see any roundels on it. I am pretty certain its not destined for Aeroventure.

The burning question in my mind is this, was that a proper film ‘set’ or was it all staged for the advert?. if there’s going to be a film with those 30’s aircraft in does anyone here know about it?.
