    HI
Could it be off one of the northrop N3PB’s, there might be cockpit photos on the net of the restored one ?
bomb drop could be more of a north american term,
think the UK term is bomb release ?

    Hi All,
It is well worth registering for the info ….photos, plans, etc.
    …. no pain ….. no gain …..
I can see the need for registering due to the type of documents available.

I have received no spam from the site and as I recall I only used my e mail and a password to register.

There are many sites I have registered with on the net and the return I get for registering far exceeds that actual process.

Maybe the only hope we have of ever getting a 1:1 scale whirlwind

    good luck to the team

    Hi Stu,
Nope sorry can’t recall what they did, It was in response to a request for info on the whirlwind in the yeovil local papers, amongst the replies I had, was someone who wrote back stating they had worked at westlands, they sent I think some photocopies from a book, and stated they had the wind tunnel model if I wanted to look at it.
I never went, as I knew I would have wanted the model and wouldn’t be able to get it..
Pretty certain the letter didn’t come with me to canada, but I will look and see if I can find it next time I am in the storage.
    Cheers

    Hi
Just a random thought, but when P6994 went to the states it was supposedly “checked out” by grummans for input into their XF5F skyrocket and F7F tigercat designs.
Might be worth it for you to contact Grummans, or who ever they are nowadays, to see if they have any info, at the worst it maybe just trials info ?

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/turkey/9353381/Nato-to-meet-over-Turkish-plane-being-shot-down-over-Syria.html

…..reports that Russia was to try again to send a Russian ship to make a controversial delivery of attack helicopters to Syria.

A first journey ended after exposure by the US authorities led the ship’s British insurer to withdraw cover.

But an unnamed Russian diplomat said the ship, the Alaed, would soon try again to deliver the aircraft………

Merrick quotes type 55/18 for the Mk.III.

    Hi
Interesting, wonder where he got his info from.
The AP quoted is 1719C for the III & C.III, issued aug ’43 with ammendments thro’ to dec 45.
So was the 55/18 an earlier prop on the halifax ? or a alternative ? to the de havilland PX.500-1169-T.A.I. ( the manual refers to an AP1538D for specific details on the propeller )

    Hi
AP for beaufighter gives three types of propeller for hercules engined aircraft, types 55/4, 55/14 and 6/6. all 12ft 9in in diameter.
AP for halifax gives type PX.500-1169-TAI, no figure for diameter.
not sure it that helps, merlin halifax AP gives props as 12ft or 12ft 9 ins or 13ft diameter, but these are all type R7/35/–.
Hopefully someone here has the dimensions for the PX.500-1169-TAI

Other countries normally don’t do such things. IF they do then it’s cleared by the country, in which case it’s not a violation.

    Hi
    Ye jest ?
What about the USA RQ-170 uav that crashed in Iran, or was that flight approved ?
And all the old U-2 and SR 71 flights ?
Turkey was apparently doing what most countries do, probing,
But Syria did not have to shoot the aircraft down, un necessary escalation of the tension.
A warning or complaint would have been better.

    Hi
Thats reminds me sometime around 2000-2002, I had a letter from someone ex westlands, living near yeovil, stating that they still had the wind tunnel model in their possesion, sorry I don’t think I have the letter/contact details anymore but shouldn’t be to hard to search him out.

Great to the project is still going well in the hard financial times.
Good Luck to the project team.

    Hi
There is from memory a spitfire near there, (64 sqn ? ’44,) but the nearest 190 on land is near Strete, there is also a 217 and a couple of 88’s in south hams.
Sorry haven’t got my notes anymore, I gave them away when I left the UK.

    Hi
    To me three options…
If you are going for max money e bay.
If you want the items to go to a project, an idea of the price for some items could be gained from the link below.
Or wait till the next aerojumble…
    cheers
