This was a rather poignant one, much closer to home, but it didn’t stop the site being stripped. Not a scrap left these days. I just hope that more respect is shown in the P-40 case.

    Hi
the linked page attributes the lack of parts remaining to :-

‘A visit to these today sites reveals little, they have now been made difficult to locate due to trail motor cycling in the area. This has churned up the peaty mountainside, resulting in a minor landslide near the Lysander, taking away the sparse evidence of these tragic accidents.’

    Not due to souviner hunters.

    Already asked!

Reading a bit more on F/Sgt Copping in Stocky Edwards book.

He was with 260Sqn in mid May 1942 and was classed as one of the ‘newer men’ along with a dozen more.

19th May 1942 Copping crash landed his Kittyhawk after combat (Italian And Luftwaffe).

Nothing listed for damage to any Kittyhawk’s in last week of June though there must have been some. Due to the retreats it seems squadron records were sparse.

    regards

    Mark

Lets lay this to rest. Copping was departing LG09 and going to LG100 (home of 53RSU), he however, was not alone. but in a flight of two.

This has been confirmed by a logbook extract I have (I’m trying to get formal release so I can post a quick scan of the page).

    Buz

    Hi
If he was flying in a flight of two, this might explain the knowledge posted earlier that “An incorrect course was set “

There’s only two ways it could possibly be a fake: Incredible CAD skills or incredible Panel beating skills and both with a lot of man hours in play.

It’s either THE best fake in history or it’s very much the real thing.

    Hi,
The kind of time someone in the desert may have, lots of spare time at the hotel in the evening maybe ?
I wrote a small book in my spare time evenings in the hotels, when I was on field service in europe and learnt to get by in two languages, it save me a fortune in beer money and kept me sane.

But seriously I would like it to be real and to go somewhere safe.

    Hi
I think the top photo shows Hurricane Mark I – DF+SC 1941-42 Zerbst-Anhalt, info from LEMB board.

But could it be this old two blade hurricane mentioned in an old flypast thread
