I’ve got a couple of these maps and i think your right, they don’t seem to be marked as targets but more like points of interest. Most likely to be used for the planning process and not the actual target maps issued to the aircrew.
Well worth watching. The ‘then and now’ images being merged really is a great technique to help visualise the history. I’ve started doing it with target photographs on google earth, sad i know but very satisfying to find the target area…….
The Luftwaffe maps that the library holds are dated 1942 so my only picky point is that the targets probably weren’t the churches and hospitals as depicted.
Looks very much like Newarks General Aircraft Monospar, my guess would be something French.
Looks like it’s coming along a treat, must visit one day soon. The video on the ‘About us’ page on the GWS website nearly brought a tear to the eye. Very well done.
Do we know if the museum is still up and running? I visited in the summer and found a right hidden gem.
Just after one final piece, can anyone help me find a set of mounting rails or even parts of the frame? Looks like scafolding poles to me.
Thanks,
Tim.
A similar question that i asked a few months back……
‘Night bombers’ or ‘An appointment in London’
The cream coloured box for the beam approach equipment always seem to be missing the rotary switch at the bottom left hand corner. Were they modified like this or has the scrap man butchered them for something shiny?
Gents, The restoration project is a private venture by myself and independent of the visitor’s centre. It’s taken a lot of time, money and dedication to get this far and finally launch the project but with 55,000 reasons why the project should succeed I intend to get the tower standing proud again.
Its a P12 up side down compass with mirror like the auster. Certainly looks like it should be there.
It’s good to see it progressing, do you have anymore pics of the cockpit area?
It came from a local aerojumble, wasn’t cheap but i figured that there wasn’t much point in begining the project if i wasn’t prepared to go the full hog….. It was deffo worth a month of ginger biscuits and baked beans for tea as it finishes off the panel a treat.
Still looking for a H2s switch unit if anyone can help????
I hope they follow it up with ‘Secret Army’ I’m starting to miss Ludwig Kessler.
Are they wartime? All the snippets i can find tend to indicate towards the metal version in wartime aircraft.
