At least it has been saved and I’m sure one day will be finished.
Very nice piece of DC3
Seeking WW2 British inert air dropped Bomber Command ordinance for museum display and WW2 RAF airfield and ground support equipment. Would also appreciate any leads to purchase a WAAF uniform too please.
Thanks.
Thanks AM. My leaning towards a Boulton Paul bracket is the tubular cross bar clamps similar to the mid upper in a Halifax, as for mounting a gunsight I’m thinking that the single hole is the attaching point as per the FN types that hold the clamp around the neck of the reflector sight and then via a single bolt onto the bracket.
It may not be from a turret but the lightweight cast alloy construction does seem to indicate that it might suit an aircraft.
I think so and electrical equipment too I think during WW2. I’m starting to suspect Boulton Paul as it doesn’t look like anything Frazer Nash would use.
The trend seems to be that for those that visited the old museum know fully how poor in comparison the refurb has been. How can any museum benefit from removing an entire floor level and reducing the space available for displays? With nothing to compare it to then it is an interesting museum but it’s such a shame what the place has become.
Agreed!!! I even went to the trouble of writing a negative review on trip advisor. Yet again a total waste of money.
Lincolnshire and Bomber County is a perfect location but what a real shame that the London memorial wasn’t sited at the proposed location. The 7 sculpted airmen looking out over Lincoln Cathedral would have made a fantastic sight.
A great project that is long overdue but let’s hope they shave off a couple of quid and loose the spire. No visitor to Lincoln will ever associate it with a Bomber Command memorial. All that wasted money spent on modern art that serves no purpose what’s so ever could be channelled towards the construction of the Interpretation centre.
Thanks James, that’s really good of you and will be put to good use.
Thanks James, we have an a Elsan and fire extinguisher at the museum at Metheringham that would benefit from a little restoration and if we could apply the correct decal then that would finish them a treat.
James, are you looking yo reproduce the labels? I can’t help unfortunately with your request but would be very interested in an Elsan and Graviner transfer if you are planning to sell them.
Always wondered the same with the Mossy fitted 6 pounder Molins gun.
Detonators were fitted in sensitive equipment similar in appearance to a posh metal pen lid filled with explosive that would shatter and destroy the equipment without causing extensive damage to the rest of the aircraft.
Also important to remember that the actions of one person although it does, should not tarnish the great work that the majority do. People give up their spare time to volunteer with very little reward so a bad hair day needs to be accepted at times as some museums hands are tied. Up set and lose the volunteers = no museum, upset the public= no museum.
