That’s where sadly a lot of the world is heading
That’s where sadly a lot of the world is heading, titilation, short term thrills gained and enjoyed at the expense of the older generations, figures in authority, etc.
Personal privacy, a great bastion of an island race like Britain – what’s that?:(
Sorry which was ?
Sorry which was ?;)
I see it now. Well 30 or 40 minutes can make all the difference between seeing your kids before they get tucked up in bed or leave for school, having dinner with the family, avoid delaying the other attendees at the meeting/s, or as the French may say getting for the mid day nookie with the mistress quicker and still back with one’s wife at a sensible unsuspecting time (3 times a day as the French always say minimum)

Lance if I may call you that as a friend – Nuclear in safe British hands for the UK
Lance if I may call you that as a friend – Nuclear in safe British Hands is initially expensive, clean, very efficient and has great longevity.
Guard the sites as we do our military bases and heaven help any ‘bl..dy’ terrorist or terrorist sympathiser who attempts anything.
Nuclear waste – that could certainly be improved. At present we dump in large (ultra large) cannisters in ‘unseen’ places in the ocean. Problem there is – if they do leak – its a lot of contamination. Small relatively tiny cannisters scattered as before in ‘unseen’ places may be a simple solution. Leak maybe but low risk.
My opinion. I used it in my 2nd year BA (Hons) Accounting project, since British Energy (now EDF) had just been granted 10 years worth of builds and I beat all the forecasts of staying above the FTSE 100 with the virtual £10million I had to invest on the FTSE only to beaten down by a SNP – crow bar wielding lecturer who did not agree (not because I had broken any of the coursework guidelines but simply because he was SNP and a true a..e-hole – the opinion of many of my batch)

Those are the exact words in the early 1990s when we put in Video Conferencing
Those are the exact words in the early 1990s when we put in Video Conferencing with the full monty. Studios, cameras the lot to reduce face to face meetings, improve productivity and all the business cases. Did it heck.
It sure hasn’t altered a yot in business even though web cams and mobile devices have proliferated (anyone see the new projection for justifying IP address format increase 35 un decillion devices – back to crap about switching on your oven and washing machine from afar – in reality may be your neighbour’s oven with nothing in it causing the entire street to burn down 😡 or you switch on your oven only to get stuck in traffic and have cold dinner anyway – we did all this advanced technical research in the early 1990s and discounted it for UK consumers/business)
Social networking via internet/chat/web cam along with porn are proliferating but I’d any day be at a real air show, in a real sculling boat on a real river or in a real pub with real beer – none of this virtual stuff.

Let’s try a vote – pity it cannot be blind – who on this forum read the muck? ie Murdoch’s former “News of the World”?:D
I think I last saw a copy about 10 years ago but have never bought a copy.
It’s just the same as a lot of reality TV – popular low key sensationalistic garbage researched by anti social, unorthodox and often illegal/borderline criminal means.:(

Even if the figures quoted are close for deliveries and backlog the expected dates quoted in the article in this thread about 460 for AA will only be delivered way past dates of expectation, quoted in the same article.
Neither Airbus or Boeing can ramp up production in China or Timbuktoo to catch up that fast. (I personally wish they could – but such isn’t a realistic ‘bean counter’s’ wish)
Not unless AA expects to jump the queue  and if so why if they took so long out of the ‘let’s decide’ starting gate?
When I say needed it meant without destroying beauty
When I say needed it meant without destroying beauty – expensive but can be done.
When is the question and cost?
Yes sure TGV (my example) cuts through a much larger country of often desolate land (but yet in many ways not without it’s unique rural beauty) and hence new track laid is/was as good as ‘dead’ straight.
This did not include Eurostar – that’s a sore point.
Not easy in Britain I must admit.
If Scotland is to develop shortening the times between Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh (all 3 sides of the triangle) would be of benefit though but here we have terrain issues. They can’t even dig a ‘bl..dy” tunnel under the Forth instead they are having another wind prone bridge 🙁 so it’s unlikely to ever happen).:o None completion like the trams in Edinburgh (Trams in reality tending to white elephants).:D
Journey times in the UK between distant cities and London, Birmingham and Manchester could be improved though (yes sadly some beauty may be lost or possibly re-done) making more productive business communication and commuting.

Wind turbines – how much fossil fuel saving and cost savings in energy to who?

You don’t require the pain of completing a BA (Hons) Accounting to work out that anything moving (a whacking great propellor and a generator) have many moving parts. These wear out, fracture, break, etc.
Aha it’s up a very high pole sometimes in the middle of oceans. There’s a force 10 or higher gale blowing, low power or no power supply to some areas. How on earth do we fix them?
Simple, Ah we have a few helicopters (as yet fossil fuel burning) and paying the skilled engineers (all the enhanced risk rates, anti social working rates) to do their stuff – Cost, Cost, Cost
Oh propellors beyond repair , new one required, never mind we’ll heli it in. Cost, Cost, Cost
No one has done the simple maths of in 4 years or sooner the cost of maintenance will be passed on to the consumer, who else and this escalating maintenance cost will have far exceeded the already astronomical cost of putting the unsightly things in.
God help the minds of numpties who think wind farms and wave machines (some scientist from Edinburgh I must shamefully admit) surrounding and scattered around a beautiful Britain – mad Heath Robinson ideas permitted to spend ridiculous sums of money only to finally cripple the consumer – you – me.
Aliens must look down from space and say “Those earthlings are getting prepared for another sea invasion of Britain from Europe they are bolstering up their coastal defences”:D
