LOL! Funny you say that. Last I remember, the U.S. is the country that has revolutionized computer technology over the last 50 years; any country can make the outside look the same or better than the F-22 Raptor. That’s easy. But what’s inside? Avionics? The U.S. is the world leader in avionics and computer technology, AND stealth technology… NOT Russia.
Russia has a different theory on fighter-jet aviation: ‘super-maneuverability’, not stealth. Last I checked, the U.S. has put billions of dollars, thousands of hours of tests and flight experience into studying stealth for 45+ years now, starting mainly with the SR-71 Blackbird, then the F-117, B-2, and probably numerous other stealth projects not spoken of openly by the U.S. government. Sorry buddy, but money alone cannot replace 45+ years of experience with such technology, and the experience that comes with actually fielding it, learning through trial and error.
Even on the subject of maneuverability, the U.S. has plenty of experience (even more than Russia) testing aircraft with canards and TVC. Look up the F-15 ACTIVE, which has true 3D TVC, along with bigger canards than any Su-27 has on it. Look up the F-18 HARV, F-16 MATV, X-31; look up the Boeing X-36 UAV technology demonstrator that has fluidic TVC, huge canards AND is tailless. The U.S. made the X-29 FSW jet back in 1984, before the Su-47 / S-37 was made.
So again, it takes more than money itself; you need EXPERIENCE! Something Russia doesn’t have with testing and fielding stealth aircraft, not nearly as much as the U.S.

joeyI would probably lump the J-10 together with the Eurofighter, Rafale and Gripen. I would be inclined to say that all of the “Eurocanards,” the J-10, the LCA and even demonstrators like the ECA, the X-31 and Lavi together in the same generation.
The F-22 and F-35 don’t fit neatly into any attempt at categorization.
It is clear that any Su-27 derivative belongs to the older F-14/15/16/18 generation.
I’m not being sarcastic, but if this is true its quite frightning for us you know? pakistan inducting huge number of typhoons [since typhoon = j10] is definitely frigning for us and so is even for US as f22 and typhoon kill ratio 1: 4.

To be fair, it seems hard to believe that the LCA will ever come close matching the potential production totals for the J-10. China has an operational 5th generation fighter today. India is having a hard time transitioning from the technology demonstrator phase to a credible pre-production prototype.

Here is a little nitpicking:
Compared to the f16 blk 50+ (incldg blk60), LCA has some advantages:
1) HMS (i’m not sure cause i have read the blk 52s also have these)
2) More composites (supposedly has the lrgst amount of composites than any other non-stealthy fighter)
3) Add to point 2 the fact that it is the smallest fighter a/c around, it’s RCS will be v.v.small if not the smallest for non stealth a/c.
4) As regards the weapons it is supposed to carry:
indian (astra), russian (whole bunch), israeli. This wide variety would give it a pretty good advantage over most other gen 4 + a/c.
6) The LCA radar is no slouch either, the MMR (speculative figures are TWS 10: 4). This is comparable to the Zhuk M (which by the way is smaller in size than MMR and still claims to TWS 20:6). Also uses ELTA – litening II LDP.
7) As the ECM suite of the LCA, the least one can expect is a fully integrated suite comprising of tarang2/tranquil, el 8222 etc
8) Open Architecture i.e. can be modified further into more wicked configurations.Yes, the F16 blk 60 would still have an edge because of the AESA. I do not think the blk 50/52 will have that edge. LCA in a2a will at least be competitive with the BLK 52 (a2g – the f16 would probly the edge).
The later versions of the LCA may have TVC and AESA (US and Fra are’nt the only ones develpg this tech, Israelis have already started flight testing the el 2052 which was shown at Aero INdia 05. India too has it’s own program apart from the Russians.) This technology will come sooner than later.

joeyone more thing nick what bout 3D TVC? drdo working on that? it was there so that the vertical tail can go ..plus if the intake moved towards dorsal wont it help in the total geometry and the RCS?
