Could it be Wackett?
Hi AA
Interesting what you say about the Gloucester Aviation Club – they also acquired a Whitley post war! Do you have any contacts who might know about this?
Did they pick up any other surplus wartime aircraft?

Where was the scrapyard from which you acquired the remains? It would be very interesting if it was in the Cheltenham area. The second prototype Martinet Trainer – JN668/G-AKOS – was acquired by the Gloucester Flying Club in 1947 but was never converted for civil use. It languished in an orchard outside Staverton aerodrome from 1949 until, at least, 1963 (q.v. W&R editions 1 & 2). As far as I am aware, nothing more was heard of it subsequently. Perhaps it was removed to the scrapyard from which you acquired the remains. Was what you acquired all that there was – of this aeroplane – in the scrapyard? It would be interesting if you could expand upon the circumstances of your acquisition 20 plus years ago.
The person who might best be able to help you is Peter Amos. if you are interested in contacting him, send me a PM and I’ll let you have his contact details.
Siskin! – that’s great news – lots of interwar aircraft used complex steel channel section – the Wallace also being one of them. There seem to be a few Siskin parts around – I do hope someone will have a stab at rebuilding one one day.
Thanks Bruce
Never seen one like that before Darrell. Have you tried on Wix?
Thanks guys
There are part numbers but nothing I recognise – they have GR and SK prefixes. Either way, it’s surplus to requirements.
I’ll try and post a pic.
Cheers
Hi there
If I were you I would send some pics to the RAF Museum.
Hi – Hampdens were based around Lincolnshire – not a million miles from Peterborough.
It’s been discussed several times and alas there is nothing to show for it. I think it’s a great idea.
Thanks Alan
Let me check and see – i’ll get back to you soon hopefully.
All the best
I’ve got a pair of E.M. release units, with crutches and attachments, as seen in the attached photo, if you are interested.
Might be useful if you stumble across a partially stripped carrier?
Hi Ben
Thanks – I will contact them.
All the best
Elliot, we have one at the museum – try Colin Fern c/o Bournemouth Aviation Museum (the late Bill Fern’s son) he had a couple and indeed two were fitted under the wings of BAM’s Harvard but dont appear to be there any more.
They do turn up from time to time. I saw one a Beltring about 2 years ago – think the chap was asking £50 for it.
If you need some prac bomb heads let me know :diablo:
TT
It’s mainly the kill ratio, but also the fact one managed to land with only one wing – a truely phenomenal aircraft.
I can see why you’ve chosen all of these except the F-15, what is so special (or speshul?) about this?
Full marks to them.
Hi Peter
It looks similar to some Boutlon Paul installations, but I am no means certain! You need to get an AP on BP turrets 🙂
Regards & good luck
Mark V – Roger Marley also has a load of these new and boxed. I bought a full set off him for the Whitley about a year ago.
If you want a pic please drop me an email and i’ll send you one.
Regards
Elliott
