Could someone post details of how to get this DVD?……..thanks.
The key thing here is that the P-51 has been accurately reproduced, I’m no art expert, but it can be frustrating looking at a painting where the aircraft has something ‘wrong’ about it….where you are left wondering how the artist could have been satisfied with it.
No such problems here, keep up the great work and keep us updated.
As far as I’m concerned Wade is the 4th Fighter Groups official artist!
(ps….away from painting but staying with the subject of ‘The Kidd’, I picked up a very nice and accurately rendered 1/72 scale die cast P47 in the markings of Hofer’s ‘The Missouri Kid’………..now just got to wait for someone to do ‘Salem Representative’)
I’m really glad there is an artist spotlighting Ralph K Hofer of the 4th FG, he was one of the real characters of the group…..if only Corgi or the others could produce a model of ‘Salem Representative’, as great as they are, I’m a bit tired of seeing ‘Old Crow’ and ‘Big Beautiful Doll’ in the die cast collections all the time.
This work is coming along nicely Wade, you do the 4th FG proud with your paintings, looking forward to seeing the finished article…..do you intend to produce some prints from it to sell?
Maybe add Lee Proudfoot and Charlie Brown to that list??
Isn’t it a shame that the late Ray Hanna won’t be around to celebrate the 70th anniversary?
I was thinking exactly the same thing whilst watching the excellent footage from the Harvard, I don’t think Ray would have had too many complaints about the formation.
Many reviews claim to make you feel as though you are in the cockpit with the pilot whilst reading the book, but as Seafuryfan said, Geoff Wellum really does pull this off.
The account of the flight when Geoff became separated from his wingman and was temporarily unsure of position near Manston was so absorbing I felt as though I’d experienced it myself.
A superb and fitting tribute to Ray Hanna from the Red Arrows.
Any idea where the Warbirds over Wanaka 04 DVD can be had?
Ray Hanna was the airshow display pilot of all time for me.
Glad I savoured his last two Biggin Hill displays in MH434, Ray displayed a Spitfire better than anyone I’ve ever seen.
Ray Hanna was a true inspiration.
R.I.P.
Perhaps he was in the closet??
Another line from that great Bladder ep……”And……Uhm, the little fellow,if you get lonely in the night, I’m in the old Chateau….theres no pressure”
I’ll have to dig out my ‘Red Air Fighter’ and Peter Kilduff book, when I read them before it did….much as I ‘m ashamed to admit it….occur to me that he may have been a left footer.
Having said that, If I was in the middle of a war where the aircraft had all the structural integrity of a house of cards and the performance of Vanessa Feltz on ice skates, women would have been the last thing on my mind (especially if the women had looked like Ms Feltz)
In WWII, aircraft design had moved on enough to allow the pilots the luxury of not having their nerves as shredded as their WWI counterparts so they were able to notice the fine popsie standing near the fireplace in the White Hart at close of play.
Speaking of Don Bullock earlier, I remember being at the Biggin Hill show when the Invader went in.
There was alot of stuff in the press about him being depressed and having all manner of probs in his private life, I don’t recall too much because I was quite young at the time.
Was it tabloid rubbish or was it true?
A similar incident with ‘confused control syndrome’ befell a GR7 during a display not many moons ago 😮
I’ve recently finished reading an excellent book on the Sea Harrier, after reading a description of a typical airshow demo I will be viewing future Harrier displays with renewed admiration.
Cheers fellas for the replies, pic and link.
Its a shame the airfield didnt survive.
Excellent selection!
Well done chaps
Thanks for the info Rob…………Yeovilton here I come!
Nice pictures, I’m way overdue a visit to Yeovilton.
Coming as I do from sarf London, I was thinking that it maybe worthwhile to book into an ‘Alan Partridge’ style ‘Travel Tavern’ near the museum rather than having a long drive there and back in the same day………or am I being a wimp? 😮
