This is probably the place to ask a question I’ve had since first reading Bach’s anthology 30 years ago…
In “A Gift of Wings” he has a chapter about his favorite pieces of aviaition literature…one he mentions, and I’ve never heard of before or since, is
“A Rabbit in the Air”, written by a prewar private pilot in the UK who discusses his efforts at learning to fly in a Moth.I don’t know the author (I don’t have access to my copy of Bach’s book) but can anyone provide details of the book and its author?
The author was David Garnett and the book published in 1932, beyond that I can’t add anymore.
I keep deliberating bout buying a ‘St Ex’ book……..someone tell me why I should read one of his books?
A very enjoyable hour’s viewing with something to interest everyone.
I couldnt help smiling at Martin Shaw’s boyish enthusiasm during his Spitfire experience.
Well done to Martin Shaw and everyone involved in the programme, looking forward to the rest of the series.
Looks very interesting, what time is ‘kick off’?
Part time wingwalker Tanya Gaze has been around the team a few years, I’m sure since the Crunchie days?.
She is now a barrister and has her own band.
I look forward to the revamped team in 07, but shall miss Lucy and Sarah.
I bought the MH434 model at Legends this year as my memorial to Ray Hanna.
And very nice and accurate it is too!
Check out Amazon’s review synopsis of Dilip Sarkar’s latest book……
Amazon review
Thats good news.
Has any report on the incident been published yet?
Hmmm, two votes for Norman Hanson, could be worth a look.
I read a good write-up on the Corsair by the late great Frank Tallman in his book ‘Flying the Old Planes’…….the Corsair in question now belongs to TFC.
Thanks for the suggestions so far.
The 20th TFW flew the ‘E’ model and ‘EF’………the ‘F’ model lived at Lakenheath with the 48th TFW.
Are you sure about the date of the perimeter fence crash Moggy?……..I thought the F-111’s went home early 93?
I dislike ‘enjoy’…..but my main bugbear is…….’Thanks for the head’s up’ 😡
Wise words EN830!
The worst things about Legends…..and the forthcoming RIAT are the whingers harping on about the entrance fee year after year.
As the comparison chart of days out listed by EN830 shows, you get good VFM at the airshows.
Sorry but when I see rants about most of the shows, I just assume that person does nothing else with their lives except go to airshows, anyone that has bought a ticket for their favourite band or football team, or taken in another attraction like Alton Towers will have an idea of the cost of other days out.
The Red Hot Chilli Peppers have toured the UK recently….I haven’t a clue how much their tickets were but I’m guessing they were’nt cheap………wonder if their fans are bemoaning the costs of the tickets on their fansites?………I think its a condition peculiar to a minority of airshow crowds.
Constructive criticism re position of the aircraft on the flightline etc etc is fair enough……but the constant gripes about pricing and xenophobia breaking out over the excellent Mr Chabbert is tiresome (its true, how would Mr Maffett get on at La Ferte Alais?!)
If you can’t afford it tough, don’t go and don’t spoil threads with the same predictable whinges every year……there are loads of things I’d love to do but can’t afford, but just accept it…..its life I’m afraid.
Who is the council run by in Croydon?…..it’s usually Labour that have an obsession with building over anything, when the Conservatives used to try and turn down housing developments, Prescott would overrule them.
As for the White Hart, they have kept a token collection of pictures here and there but I don’t think the original bar layout has been there for years even before the refit a few years back.
Come on.. its an active airfield.. it moves with the times and the demands of its occupants..it is not preserved in aspic nor should it be…BTW if the IWM was not there, developing and using the site, do you think it would still be a historic airfield? (Manston anyone?)
Completely agree, I always wonder what will become of Biggin Hill my local airfield.
Without the AAM and the other developments, Duxford would have a very shaky future indeed, the usual ugly spectre of a housing estate springing up for one.
Besides, the AAM is excellent and a fine tribute to the both the USAAF and the USAFE, I find it difficult to believe anyone could question its existence.
Given that BBD is based down the road from where I occasionally enjoy an aerial perambulation I am relieved to hear that said aeroplane and crew landed safely and trust that the good people of Germany remain unharmed
The White Hart in Brasted did indeed have a refurb and there are numerous aircraft and personnel pics scattered around the premises ,the replica of the board is still there to, the original may well be at Hendon as tailspin mentioned.
