Sorry guys that I didn’t get the Sea Fury id quite right!
Just trying to sort out Permit to Fly for the P-39, Permit to Test for the P-40, radio annual and survey, radiator removal and refit on the P-51D, aileron cables to remake on the Staggerwing, mag drop on the Mk. XIV, fly the SpitV, Corsair, Bearcat etc etc for DA renewals for the weekend. Rebuild a Gladiator, Beafighter and a Spitfire 18. Think about shipping a Merlin to the USA for overhaul and another to Italy, bring back shipping stands from the US so we can ship a P-51 Stateside for the Gathering of Mustangs, and thats just before breakfast!
Have to go Miss Velma has just arrived!
Thats some workload!…..it is easy to forget the amount of hard graft that goes into Legends when you turn up on the first day and see the participants in the line-up.
Parking them on the display line is most probably the easy bit, before that many long days and tight schedules have been experienced.
Which TFC P-51 is going back ‘Stateside for the ‘Gathering’?
Looks like Ed has got Miss Velma into Duxford………welcome!
Nice shots with decent clarity, Hog snout is my fave, but then I’m biased!
Many of the regions TAF’s were forecasting gusts of 28kts out of 210 , that wouldnt inspire confidence.
Miss Velma and co over-nighting in Wick, hopefully a morning departure tomorrow for Duxford weather/serviceability permitting.
Welcome to your new home Miss V:)

Thats good news.
It is indeed!
Is Nigel Lamb still at the helm at the OFMC?……I’m sure I heard a commentator at Biggin mention that Alister Kay is running things.
Alisters display in ‘Ferocious Frankie’ was a belter at BH….that said his displays always are, Alister, Lee and Nigel all fly in that Ray/Mark Hanna style ensuring their memory is preserved.
Great to see MH434 back.
I’ve been going to the Biggin Hill Air Fair man and boy for years now and the entrance and particularly exit was a piece of cake this year, I remember some hellish egresses in years gone by.
Loved the new layout, very novel waving to Miss D as she taxied past the car, I was lucky on the sunday in that I had just the rope barrier on one side of the car.
Saturday I arrived late and was parked near the back, but had some aircraft to ogle as I set off on my yomp to the main display area, I speak as a veteran of Mildenhall Air Fetes of the late 70’s when you had a two mile trek to the static display, the tail of the C5 being the aimpoint, so no airshow with the possible exception of RIAT can trouble me walking wise.
The weekends flying was superb, as was the excellent commentary pairing of Brendan and Melvin.
Well done to the organisers, congratulations on a safe, well executed show in lovely weather.
I was wondering the same thing…….I’m guessing after a search on here, that its to do with getting a new engine.
John Romain did a fine tribute this weekend…….although the ‘Spirit of Ray’ prize for me went to Alister Kay in ‘Ferocious Frankie’ today at Biggin, what an entrance!
The german shepheard dog one was the best !
Colin.
I wonder if that was the one about ‘Duke’ who adopted Ralph Kidd Hofer?

Another news report.
Its true, Headcorn does suffer from a minority of anti-GA types.
The main protagonist, a nasty old b*@#*$^d who ran a protest website, used to gloat about mishaps, even the fatal ones.
Very sad news, early reports sounded more encouraging.
I’ll have to have another bash at ‘607’……started reading it last summer and got diverted when I got into a book about Douglas Bader…….never bothered to pick it up again.
I loved the Vulcan as an airshow aircraft but need convincing about its ‘non-airshow activities’
My judgement is clouded by the fact that one Vulcan afficianado I know of is a ‘bit of a leftie’ and it amuses me that he completely ignores the fact that the Vulcan had its moment of glory thanks to Margaret Thatcher and the Tories, does anyone really think that old Labour would have fought for the Islands…….but thats another topic, and another forum.
I read and enjoyed Sharkeys book and he made valid points, but I look forward to balancing things up by reading Roly White’s book.
It was the news footage of Alex Henshaw flying in IAC161 during the Spitfire 70th birthday flight from Southampton that inspired me to read his books at long last.
When the coverage ended, there I was, logged on to Amazon and ordering the books, a great read they provided last summer!
RIP Alex Henshaw.
Finally got to read ‘The Flight of the Mew Gull’ and ‘Sigh for a Merlin’ last year two excellent and unforgettable books.
Very entertaining regulars on the airshow circuit, glad to see them back in 07 with a new sponsor.
It makes sense to include them in the Flying Legends line-up, and not just from the ‘Stearman being a warbird’ point of view.
Airshow organisers need to cater for the general public as well as the enthusiast and the Flying Legends organisers are no exception, the Aerostars? put on a good display last year, and Team Guinot will provide a top notch routine for all the family at Legends 07…….(hopefully Guinot will be handing out samples of their products, the often windy conditions on airfields plays havoc with my skin):o
The full version of the Mustang footage in the clip is available on the 2006 Flying Legends DVD
An excellent DVD throughout, with superb P-51 footage.
The quality of the mini-cams now are top notch, the RIAT 06 DVD contains fantastic in-cockpit footage of the F-15 display which makes scenes from Top Gun look almost tame by comparison, I’m disappointed I missed the RIAT 03 DVD with the mini cam of the A-10 demo.
Christmas wouldnt be the same without my airshow DVD’s
