Received a press release this morning regarding Stow Maries – a flying Sopwith F1 Camel (I presume replica), which will be painted in the markings of Lieutenant Hollington who flew a Camel from Stow Maries in 1918, will be based at RFC Stow Maries later this year
Let’s face it, we’re not likely to need to defend against a mass bombing raid by the combined forces of a Russian/Taleban/Zombie Nazi air force anytime soon
There was what I believe to be an Auster in USAF colours flying over Monmouth, South Wales today at about 1645 heading south-east.
A brief check online as to it’s ID revealed nothing UK based, but it could be because i’m not sure exactly what it was!!
Made my afternoon though!
Sacrilege!
I doubt it was an Auster, i’d be very surprised to hear of one in USAF markings. Could have been a Piper Cub or the Aeronca in USAAF markings (with D-day stripes)?
Brisfit ( :p )
Ouch.
And yes, would be great to have a replica built – although I can’t see it happening in the UK, the only chance of seeing an artificial Cuckoo flying here is if there’s an explosion at a novelty clock factory
As a Biff afficianado, i’m quite offended you’re implying someone could mistake one for that
Who’s O’ Riley?
I had no idea TV advertisiing was a sign of things being bad for airlines – bad news for Jet2, British Airways, easyJet, Qantas and all those other airlines that have advertised on television….
Couldn’t be a WW1 Sopwith – no rotary engine and it isn’t anywhere near as ugly as a Dolphin!
Absolutely superb film…. don’t recall seeing any of the Curtiss Jenny’s at the end of the film.
The Zeppelin scene is stunning, i’d love to know how they did it, where it’s coming down in flames then hits the ground looks very realistic
But on the other hand, you wouldn’t want to trust your life and go flying in an aircraft that looks knackered and uncared for…
Yep, that’s the Biff now with Peter Jackson in NZ
Hear hear Yak 11 Fan…
Personally, I think it looks fantastic, i’d love to see the same done to a Beech 18

The rest of it is elsewhere, probably in the many crates! It looked like the scene out of Indiana Jones, think it was the ‘ark of the lost covenant’ one.
Anyway, here’s a couple more photos

“Got Spitfire?”
I’m afraid that’s the only photograph of the Bessoneau framework I have – I could e-mail you the high resolution copy if that’s of use?
Busy that weekend i’m afraid – i’m abseilling down the Royal Liver Building in Liverpool!
