Many Thanks. I’m getting my Great Uncles medals framed along with 2 of his Sqn badges & wings so if there was a 2TAF badge for the period it would be a fitting addition.
Regards,
Andy
Many thanks Snapper. If you can find out anything I’d appreciate it.
Thanks everyone. Just to confirm, would a pilot who received the AirCrew Europe Star (ie flew missions prior to D Day) also actually receive the France & Germany Star Medal if entitled to it or would this be represented by a bar on the former?
Thanks,
Andy
Laurent,
Have you looked at http://www.awm.gov.au this is the Australian War Memorial site and there is a search facility with a roll of honour database.

Andy
Maybe the people in charge thought that if the German people were subjected to the same horrors their regime had inflicted on the people of Europe twice in the 20th Century they wouldn’t do it again? Sounds harsh but lets remember that Harris and persons of his generation had witnessed the horrors of the trenches.
Geoff,
Just to let you know, a photo of the grave of P/O G.Corbett is in the post to the museum, how can I obtain a newsletter?
Andy
Many thanks Tom. Any idea as to which Squadrons markings these Tempests are going to be painted in?
Typhoon – but don’t let me Uncle near it, he had a habit of crashing them!!!!
Will do, it may be some time though, assisting son No 2 with his Tornado at the moment, no space on the runway for the Tiffie!! Still looking for these decals though.
Andy
Many Thanks.
Andy
Is there anything in the displays at Manston regarding the Whirlwind and Typhoon Squadrons based there during WW2?
Thanks,
Andy
Many thanks for your replies,
Andy
Yes he’s still alive. Basically on take-off David went a bit to the right and managed to hit a parked grass roller (not a good start to his 1st scramble). Sheward saw him disapear in smoke and flames and thought he’d bought it, but 10 mins later David appeared on foot with nothing more than a cut finger!!
I’m looking for any info or photos of the following 137 Sqn pilots all KIA in 1944: P/O James Holder, P/O Matthew Wood (both canadian) and S/Ldr Gunnar Piltingsrud (Norwegian).
Regards
Andy
Sorry Snapper, had 2 kids and 2 parents to look after and lost track of time!! Nice to meet Ronnie Sheward though, my Great Uncles 1st flight with 137 Sqn had Sheward as his leader (unfortunately Uncle disapeared in smoke and flame on take off but thats another story!!).
