A close approximation is the ‘Johnston’ London Underground font, block capitals of course. Haven’t found a free source for it yet though.
Not massively expanding, although the window did pop out of my shed due to a surfeit of Spitfire a while back. The Sea Vixen panel has made just enough progress not to stop, but if I do reach a dead end I will think of you Pagen!
Oh Behave. That’s good news Pagen, cheap is the way forward. That said I’ve just failed to buy a stick off a Kiowa so my finances are not as stretched as Feared. Also, the ‘wrong’ gauge in the UC hole is a combined trim indicator for a Lightning, which may improve the financial situation further. On the smut front Anon, just worked my through the sorry Hooton Park thread. You really have been royally bug***d. Many commiserations.
Thanks Terry, splendid illustration. I’ll stay on the lookout for a Mk2 though, to avoid any cutting. Having survived this long it seems a shame to take a hacksaw to it now!
Very nice, would love to see it lit up.
I think that came out wrong, Anon! Still, any hole (filled) is a goal. Even your older, larger hole Pagen. Hopefully, and more sensibly, a large UC indicator will appear. Otherwise I’ll have to make up a mounting plate. Nice photo, although the rear seat panel reminds me of an aeronautical gravestone…
That’s excellent Anon, the hole is a reassuring 95mm Diameter. Never seen one of those Mk2s so thanks for the pic. There’s no rush Bruce, I’ve spent much too much already. Pay day is on the 28th but any time after that and I’m yours! The UC indicator light is a 5c/1553 which should be more in my price range. It’s going to be a busy night listing on evilbay!
Cheers Graham. The stick annoyed me every year with it’s wrong description, then I found a picture of something similar. Not much aviation stuff this year, in fact not much good at all. Did you see the £150 ‘Horsa’ rudder pedals? They weren’t.
That’s very sad. If the development is going to be residential, can you point out some suitable road names to the council?
Got there in the end. Also fitted to MG FFs in He111 noses. Pleased.
You’re right Pagen, definite curve on the T7.
Thanks for the pictures Terry, the two are very similar. Mine has another knob cut out on the bottom left hole, which suggests it wasn’t meant to have the UC indicator there, but another compass. Anon, if a DI mk2 has but one knob, then that’s the one for me! Bruce?
Thanks Anon, I don’t think a 4F DI would fit mine, only one knob hole(!). The illustration is from the Modeller’s Datafile. Artists have a nasty habit of making up the bits they can’t see but it must be based on some sort of truth. Historical accuracy aside, I’ll try for a UC indicator bottom left as it looks nicer than just another gauge. Robdd1, ebay is your best bet, it just takes time to find the bad listings. There are also couple of well forum publicised Aerojumbles which could sort you out!
Cheers Anon, two votes for T7 so I’ll go with that! The Mk7 pilot’s notes (different to T7? I’m going by what it says on the cover) show a DI with two adjusting knobs, mine only has space for one bottom right. A painting in the modellers datafile of a T7 panel shows the curved bottom edge (only noticed now!) a Mk1a DI and the UC indicator top of the central pedestal. Bottom left on the panel is another compass. Thanks for the offer of templates. I’ll hold out for originals for a while but might well be interested. Did you see the panel first time on ebay? It came down a little from the initial £2,700!
Thanks Pagen, I’ve googled freely and there doesn’t seem much difference. That said the MAM F8 and Mk7 pilot’s notes both show a flat bottom edge. My only book reference is the Modeller’s Datafile, would you have a supporting piccy at all. Sorry to be cheeky!
