Hi Dangerousdave
Three questions for you,
1) Would a small cockpit be of interest?
2) If so, do you have a date?
3) Agin if so, would you require a million pounds of insurance?
By the way, we only charge in Tea and biscuits!
Ritch and Max.
Hi
Lexan is just one of many trade names for polycarbonate sheet. If you contact any plastics supplier they should be able to supply your needs quite cheaply.
If you are anyware near to Leicester, we may even have what you need in our workshop, if you can collect it.

Christ, that photo brings back some memories, that hangar was practicaly my home for about 13 years of my life! Oh to be young and (even more) stupid again!!
Speaking from a personal prospective, we would love to do more events with our Chipmunk cockpit, but, it is very costly to attend any show when you add up the transport and personal costs, not to mention valuable time and the wear and tare on the cockpit and trailer etc, which needs constant attention. Also, we very rarely see much of any event we attend as we are so busy with the cockpit, that is why the Saturday evening at Newark is so valued by all who attend, when we all get to chat and look at each others cockpits.
The summer in the UK is all to short, and with family and work commitments, weekends are valuable and have to be divided to avoid divorce and / or bankruptcy.
Hi
I have only just got back from a holiday, so am a little late picking up on this, Max and I are looking for cockpit items, so if you thinkyou might have anything of use to us, please drop me a P.M.

Hi
Totaly agree with Anon, air is compressable, so the pressure tends to build untill it overcomes the load and it’s off like a big spring, all that stored energy. Hydraulics on the other hand will just give a positive displacement, in other words, they will move the ram only by the amount of fluid pushed into it, so it’s far more controlable.
We know you have a sence of humour Howard, otherwise you would have had us banned from the event long ago!!
Thanks.
Hi Jason
Could you pass the details on to me please.
Thanks,
Ritch.
Thanks David, so that is the identity of our latest project.
Can anyone add to her history in any way? even the smallest details help.
Thanks again,
Ritch.
It all started for us when a very young Max displayed a couple of instrument panels many years ago. Now although we don’t have anything very exotic, just our little Chipmunk cockpit, we feel a part of the Cockpitfest family, So we have done both cockpit and “supplimentary exhibit” and have had just as much fun and felt just as welcome no matter what.
Knowing the effort it takes to move a cockpit around, I have endless respect for the guys with the heavy metal, but we will all have our favourites and personal preferances, but thats all part of lifes rich tapestry as they say.
And myself, I voted for the lady with the Women in War display in the hangar, a much overlooked aspect of our wartime history and the B26 cockpit which I found fascinating from a structural point of view (did you see the thickness of those cold rolled skins and the quality of the riveting?).
So I am with Howard on this, and we need to encourage families not just aviation enthusiasts through the gate, so the more displays of any kind the better for us all.
Cockpitfest is evolving over time, some will say for the better, some for the worse, but personaly I just think it’s a bloody fantastic event and we just love beeing a small part of it.
Ritch,
Hi Fouga23
Sorry I didn’t reply sooner, but had a spell of ill health to get out of the way before Cockpitfest 2014.
If you have a look at the Cockpitfest thread, Pully has posted a nice photo of the old girl.
If you want any other details just send a PM and we will be glad to help.
Best wishes,
Ritch.
Just bumping this up in case anyone can help us.
Thanks,
Ritch.
Just want to send a very big THANK YOU to Howard, Bill and all the other guys and gals who work so very hard all weekend and put up with us all.
We couldn’t help but notice whist strolling around the Museum in wonderfull sunshine on Saturday evening how good the whole place was looking, I am told this is down to a couple of volunteers in particular, so please make sure they know that they are dooing a brilliant job.
A great selection of cockpits, and good to see all our friends again and we had hundreds of kids big and small sitting in our Chipmunk cockpit over the weekend, lots of smiles and hundreds of photos taken for family albums. It’s what it’s all about for us..
On a personal note from the Chippy crew, no award was ever more deserving than Andy Blair’s J.P. One of the nicest guys you could ever meet and a good friend he opitomises the guys who plug along year after year in a garage at home and on a tight buget, both your wife and your own smiles on Sunday afternoon where great to see, well done and I hope you survived Pullys man hug un-scathed!!!!
And to Heather and Niel at Lake’s Lightnings, all our love and best wishes for you and your upcoming event, we think the world of you guy’s and are realy happy for you.
Roll on next year,
Thanks again Ritch and Mx Blood.
Weather permitting we will be taking along our Chipmunk cockpit section, and have been told to offer an open invitation to any other cockpiteers. So if anyone is interested in displaying, please get in touch with me ASAP an I will make arrangements.
