I Just Luuurrrrvvvvv a good debate
Hi Avro – you are a bit of a stirrer yourself – I will be at Leg ends – I hope to catch up with you and some of the others like David and Fuji for a drink – could have a great time at the Red Lion – would be nice – You could always mount me on a pole at the gate at Dux as an example to all of we colonials !!! LOL
Regards
John
I’ll see if I can find a pole big enough… :diablo:
Later..
Avro’s finest
I think you will find if you read through the posts that in fact i was trying to be supportive here of the UK and the industry – I appologise if you took a different view of my coments – It is just that the Beau is my favourite and i take a view if because as you say all of this other work is being done on all these other aircraft and the Beau can be done here sooner and cheaply but with the same quality then why not. You need to read the bits where I spoke of the quality and people of the UK industry too. I never said or intended any slight on TFC or anybody else there.
Regards
John
I know, it’s fun though…. :diablo:
Well we know whats happening to the one in the States.
BUT WHAT ABOUT THE ONE AT DUXFORD
Hi
Time to be a little titchy here…..
I reckon the best chance the UK Beaus have of ever flying is to send them downunder from whence most of them came in any case.
We have the expertise and experiance (eg The beaufort soon to fly- within 3 years I would say) We don’t have the insurance or beuracratic issues as badly in the UK and it could visit for Leg ends or whatever – Before everyone starts howling do you want it sitting in a hanger or do you want it done !
The same goes for the Skysport project and mark my words it’s only a matter of time before one or both of these Beaus winds up in a NZ or Aussie shop for completion and that WOULD be something at Wanaka !!!!.
You Know it makes sense so get on with it I say!!!!
Regards

As a native of the country incapable of restoring WWII era aeroplanes, I spent a short while today speaking to some other aircraft engineers who are also incapable of restoring and operating WWII aeroplanes.
We came up with a short list comprising of the following aircraft operated and / or restored by one company.
Restored in House –
Spitfire XVI.
Mustang X2
P 63.
Hurricane.
Gnat.
Yak 50.
On going
Gladiator.
Beaufighter.
Hawker Sea Fury.
CR 42 one flyer one static.
Restored in UK –
Bristol Fighter.
Spitfire V.
Spitfire IX.
Spitfire XIV – X2.
Hawker Nimrod.
Hawker Hurricane X1.
Static restorations –
Avro Anson.
Tempest II
F 86.
P 47.
Mig 15.
Restored in US.
P 47.
Hawk 75.
P 39.
Hellcat.
P 40B X2.
There are others, but I left my list in the hanger, you know, the building that houses aeroplanes that are either serviceable, unserviceable or undergoing major maintenance or rebuild.
So if you think we are going to send the Beaufighter over to you lot, dream on, you need a lot more restoration time under your belt.
Any offers to update or amend the above list, please feel free.
This aircraft engineer is now going to read his boys own book of how to recognise an aeroplane….
I’ve worked on & flown in it when it was at Van Nuys, it had a stick, rudder pedals & throttle in the back when it was here. Seems a shame to remove that stuff as the TFC groundcrew guys could have got some stick time in it 🙁
Flying’s for the birds, anyway there aint know way out it if it all goes Pete Tong.
If flying was difficult the engineers would do it.
Hopefully might be going to legends this year, will only be the second airshow i’ve ever been to! (First one ended with a fatal plane crash, not too good) Can anyone anyone suggest good ‘spots’ to watch the show from?
The pub.
Ah yes send the warbirds to Australia now why would we want to send them to the worlds biggest open air prison? have they been stealing sheep or something? 🙂
It’s not that good a prison, they’ve all escaped. All the buggers are coming over here. :dev2:
If you have not got anything constructive to add to the thread then why bother posting!
It’s a bank holiday Monday so why not have something constructive to add to the admittedly somewhat speculatitive thread, other than being the forums Victor Meldrew. Also the forum has an in joke ‘will it be at legends’ theme so i was hoping for maybe a touch of banter!?!? so lighten up before i reach for the vallium!
Hmmmmmm………..
By turning up everything seems “normal”,by not turning up it is instantly noticed and then explaining / blaming the EU gives the absence an enemy to focus on .
Hopefully Sally B is’nt grounded so long that that in itself makes her a “forgotten” victim.
You don’t just turn up, you make the point by anouncing the fact you found the said amount for this one very important flypast. That way you start to through the focus back on the pratts that laid down this legislation in the first place.
I’m not saying turn up for every event, just the one the media are focusing on.
It’s not that difficult to work out – is it ?
The way things are going, people are going to get fed up with the incessant bleating.
A good strategic move in my view.
I would be pretty sure this has got more to do with the politics and max publicity, it was on my TV this morning, than finding the £2k extra insurance for the Madingley appearance.
This is gaining momentum nicely.
My money is on ‘SallyB’ being at next year’s Madingley.
Mark
It would have made more of an impact if they had found the money for this one Flypast, it would show just how much they care about preserving the right to fly over events like this.
Only my humble opinion though.
All correct – but in the UK (CAA) TBO is still 500 hours regardless of what Merlin set up you have.
At 500hrs it goes on condition.
Well, whats happening with the Varsity?
To bring this thread back on track, what’s happening to the Varsity.
Stop having airshows is the answer….
Don’t say that, some idiot in a position of responsibility will think you mean it.
D.P on C.D.?
what is the quality like on these cd’s?
