I never even picked up on that – although I did notice G-FIRE at the back.
The D-Day-striped Spit in the middle-ground appears to be PM631 – which wore that scheme back in 1984.
PM was still in that scheme when I left the flight in May 1990.
I saw them practicing while at Coningsby on ATC Camp for a week in 1985; an F3 and the Spit XIX with D-Day stripes and coded DL-E, can’t remember the serial. Great week, that was, ended up sitting deep in the bowels of the Lancaster while the boys ran up the engine that they’d just been tinkering with. That was my reward for passing one of them a spanner… đ
Mk XIX – PM631 = DL-E. Got some nice air to air of that one, I’ll dig em out and put them on for you.
I have had lots of messages from people asking to see some pics of the cockpit section – these were taken on Saturday. Hope they are interesting.
At the moment its future is bleak – the only serious offer is from a German film company that intends to blow it up as part of an anti-RAF film. Obviously I am working hard to see this doesn’t happen – it seems insane in this day and age.
You have an exhibit to be proud of, don’t rush nto anything.
Unfortunatly,Mrs Finest would kick me out if I even thought of having it :diablo: , mind you, Finest juniors would be in 7th heaven, they just love Avro’s finest and can’t get enough of the bomber.
Good luck with the sale.
I keep telling you…. There is life outside Duxford!!!!
Try telling Duxford !!!!!!!!!!
True, that’s what has puzzled me. Of course you can find wartime photos of Spitfires without the crowbar, but, from what I have seen, they are a minority. On the other hand I don’t recall seeing the crowbar in the cockpit door on any post-war photos. In many Mk XVIs of no. 131 (Polish) Wing in Germany during 1945-1946 a map holder-type thing was fitted in the door, so clearly the crowbars were not used at all.
What you have to realise is, on some Mks, the crowbar is not fitted to the door, it is positioned below the door just aft of the trim control wheels. The Mk6 is a good example.
You need to get hold of Dizzy Addicot, he flew Mossies in Burma and also flew them in the film Mosquito Squadron, he was an active display pilot upto 8 or so years ago, not sure if I have his address i wiil have a look.
See ya
Does anyone have anything nice to say about John Prescott?
Is he the – Beer swilling, punch swinging, two Jag driving piece of overweight scum.
NO
So long as Mrs Finest and the Avro Juniors don’t mind, you’re welcome to come and lie on the ground next to me. I don’t think we’ll be alone though.
buga. has to be done though.
Well done for reminding folk about this.
I’ve already joined the North Weald Users Group and written various letters of protestation and offered to lie in front of bulldozers.
Can I come to !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Designed to help remove the hood in an emergency
Why they are left off i don’t know, some operators replace the item with a map case or strap to hold maps.
I’ve even seen them wirelocked (and I don’t mean safty wire) in place, very bloody usefull, all you need is a pair of wire cutters in an emergency and you’ll be OK.
Sorry mate
words cant say enough, may he rest in peace. He sounded like a good old boy.
The B25 Mitchell taken at North Weald this afternoon.
Best regards
If this was a horse, it would have been shot by now.
Cut it up, only corrosion holding it together.
The Box ………..
Went to DX today, the box is still empty.
I’m very concerned about the recent locking of the “Low Flying Spitfire” thread. I feel there was no reason to lock this thread, for the below reasons:
No personal attacks were made or foul language used (except by sconnor who has now indicated he will no longer post here).
The film clip in question is clearly in the public arena, being seen repeatedly on television around the world, as well as numerous times on the internet. Not discussing it here will do nothing to change that fact.
The photographer and owner of the film clip, Steve Connor, has by his own admission profited from the sale and distribution of this film. If he didnât want anyone to see it then he shouldnât have sold it, thereby allowing it to enter the public arena.
A comment was made thatâŚâAny further raking over of this issue will probably cause further hassle for the pilot – does anyone out there want that?â I would argue that the genie was already out of the bottle the moment this film clip was sold. If the photographer and pilot didnât want it seen by the public (and obviously discussed) they should have destroyed it then and there.
I enjoy this forum and the members who contribute here, but this thread should not have been locked because OFMC didnât like the contents. Iâm sure the unfortunate American Yak pilot who was caught on film last year dipping low at the bottom of a loop wishes that piece of film didnât exist either, but the members and moderators had no problem with discussing that topic in detail.
Hi Steve.
I agree with all you have said above. All you have to do is look at Discovery wings, the Brietling fighters are shown flying low between an avenue of trees. I dont remember seeing that commented on. There is footage of low flying being shown most weeks somewhere.
This could go on forever.
Best regards.
Avro .
Spray guns sleep safely at night knowing this!!
Steady!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
