Haley, can you please nock it off with those crappy PS-jobs and your awfully suggestive, apologetic comments with them? It’s an OH-1 fer’ cryin’ out loud 😡I thought I had stated that it was “claimed as the Z-10“
or that it could even be a PSed piece of work. I wasn’t the one that did it.
Nor had I said that it was even real. In fact, my message as to whether or not the
claim was legit was for you guys to decide and not for you to buy.Actually, in another site I visited later, some claimed that it’s
actually Japanese. But, what do I know! I’m no chopper fan. I added it here only
because I thought it was relevant to this thread — regardless.
From zgyb.xilubbs.com today:
Don’t know if this is a Z9 or 10 but…

Claimed as the Z-10, PSed or otherwise.

F-101 Voodoo; very menacing; almost elusive
as it zips accross the skies of Cold Lake AFB, Alberta, even after
the CF-18s have come into being in the RCAF.That crackling thunder will send shivers down your spines when it
passes by. Even cracked school windows once or twice when it roared overhead but no one
thought anything of sonic booms those days. Pilot got off scott free.F-104s are usually upper altitudes. You can hardly hear them.

Not to mention that taking photos outside and away from a military area or outside a confidential zone is permitted, but if you want to take photos of huludao, you will have to go through the QingDao Naval Defense Area (that already trespassing a military area), then try to enter a base/yard with Lvl 1 security rating… You will be lucky if you are not prosecuted as a spy…Unlike the US, France, Britian, or even Russia, Chinese military
matters and military built ups are highly sensitive issues. In fact, it’s almost a phobia
of sort where it wasn’t even neccessary to be treat as serious.I mean, do you guys really think that NASA is
heading back to the moon because they thought the time was ripe
for them to experience it again??? Not a chance!!!!Honestly however, I’d say it’s more because of “the undue phobia” the west has over
the possiblity that the Chinese “MIGHT” militarize space. And, they (US) didn’t want to be caught
with their pants down just in case the Chinese does move towards the direction.IMHO, the US’s return to the moon has nothing to do
with exploration of the moon or space!!! I’d say it’s more to do with militarization. Anyway,
and regardless — a smart move anywhichway by GW……even though the Chinese part may indeed be a beneign one!!!
China won’t officially and openly acknowledge these (carrier) projects untill this phobia is done and over with.

Well maybe all those CDF members who were able to take pics of the secretive J-10 could take a few pics of those 3 huge carriers for us. Its not easy to keep the construction of such ships top secret. Even if it were true, it would take a while for China to formulate the 3 carriers’ strategies, it would take time for the crews to get accustomed to a carrier, it would take time to get other ships to protect the carriers etc. China’s best bet is on subs, a Chinese sub has more of a chance of getting within firering distance of an american battlegroup with long range missiles for example than any Sukhoi ever will.
“CDF members and their sneaky cameras:”
They can’t even sneak-in pictures of the so called
093s and 094s currently said to be under construction, or those
rumored as already in service or are in sea trials.
Old saying: If there’s a will, there’s always a way!!!
In other words: If they wanted to keep these projects from
prying eyes, there’s alway a way for them to do it!!!

Yes I dont think that China will build 3 ACCs right away. I think they are smart to realize that they need to gain Naval Superiority in the South China Sea and the strait around Taiwan and a Carrier is not a must. If anything China will get an Aircraft Carrier to protect Spartley Islands in the South China Seas.
Spartley Islands = same as Parcel Islands. However,
these Islands will not be the principle reason for the Chinese
to plunge into carriers. Their main Island (Taiwan) is!!!
Yes! Floatillas consisting of carrier(s) are needed to
blockade/seal off this main Chinese island’s eastern coastline in order to choke
off its potential life line if all hell indeed breaks loose.
And, If the unthinkable indeed happens, IMO, it’ll likely be a
HUGE HUGE undertaking for the Chinese, and as such, more than 3
battle groups will be needed in this almost do or die situation.
I envision a total of between 8-10 carriers (light-medium)
when this project (995) is fully realized. And, once and when they will have
acquired the neccessary experience/know-how in building carriers, we’ll likely see
100,000 tonner plus vessels making its way into the Chinese Navy.
My opinion: For now, the Chinese are but looking at the mastering of
the art of carrier building and designs. They won’t officially acknowlege these projects
until they are confident that the west is not going to make a big deal of it.
And the west shouldn’t make a big deal of it…

That was my thinking, too.
And I just have my doubts about Varyag being completed,
as it needs a bunch of work“Is scrap metals really worth that much trouble???”
The Varag, my opinion, is reference
material for Chinese engineers to go to just in case
they encounter technical problems!!!And, all those newer PLAN introductions (167,168, 169, 170, 171)
and more? They are the pieces to fill in that battle group jigsaw. Battle group
jigsaws which will likely be finalized before the end of the decade. They don’t need such costly frigates and destroyers, or so
many of them all at once, for coastal defense. Their air and land based
defenses is sufficient for homeland defense needs and measures. What you see materializing are power projections badly needed
in the contested Parcel Island region, and as an element to lock in or choke off the
main Chinese Island in case military hostility breaks in the straight.
Ohhhh… What the heck! They are all nice!!!
Maxing out the horses!!!!

(Picked this cool one up today from the WMF site)
the one in green is actually a Q-5D
What’s this one then?

http://bbs.china.com/military/html/board_57_post/438818/1682193.html#1682193
Ming Pao is so big that they can sue the pants out of this guy if this was rumor mongering on the expenses of the publisher…My Babblefish tells me this:
- Vessel Size: 48,000 deadweight tonnage
– Max speed : 30 knots per hour
– No. aircrafts : 24 fighters plus choppers & support units
– Fighter type : Accordingly (engineer, Jiangnan shipyard), Su-27/30 & navalized J-10 (preference heavily given to latter)
– Completion date: Estimate: 2005
– Cost (First vessel): Estimate: RMB 48 “Yi” (Billion???) (Beats me what this works out to CDN or USD)
– Operational cost: Estimate: 2-3% total annual Chinese military budget
– Daily expenditure: Estimated: 300,000 Yens (probably RMB; fuel not inclusive)Anyway, who knows!!!
Curious here, Hyper…
What says the hieroglyphics in the bottom???
Baffled and interested.

I’m merely sharing this info with you guys since no one else in
this board have the nerves or the dare to click it.Now, while we can look at this claim/rumor
with an eyefull of skepticism and maybe even write it off altogether,
we must however ask ourselves the following:Are they really that stupid
to go through all that trouble with Turks
to have the Varag released???Are they really that stupid to risk losing the vessel or maybe
have it (Varag) bang into another vessel while in high sea and then be
held liable for the damages, and all that just for the heck of it???Logic says no to that theory :)!
3 ships??? Well… between brand new vessels and refurbished ones like
the Varag, my guestimate is that the total number would be between 6-8 vessels by
2010 and, all of these carriers will most likely be be launched simultaneously.Like India, the Chinese too have numerous
off shore islands they needed to project their airpower and
carriers allow both nations the means to do that.

Damn… All of a sudden, All of Asia’s going to get airborne as it seems
Rightly or wrongly…
Once again: The saying where there’s smoke,

Shame on all of you CMFers here for not keeping

like to call it. Even if this means this is but BS???
No amusement park thingy here my opinion.
