Regardless of the nature of the response, a senior U.S. military official in the region told NBC News on Wednesday, it’s almost certain that Russia will retaliate “heavily and militarily.

The only way to cut the cost while maintaining capability is to cut labor costs. Since all aspects of the F-35 are being competitively bid, the component costs are being kept down.

its based on number of orders not on competitive bid.
I highly doubt LM understand the economic and domographic change coming where the put this final assembly of JSF. it can become as uncompetitive as southern california.

Immigrants relocating to Texas on rise
But recently, demographers have noticed a surprising new migration pattern: Increasingly, foreign-born professionals are opting to leave their initial U.S. homes, often in California, Florida, Illinois and New York, and pulling up stakes to head to the Lone Star State.

Of course none, but there is a theoretical possibility of planting a bomb on the plane.

But, again, there were reports hinting that the plane was in poor technical condition (plus, it did suffer some damage around its tail before) and the operating company has liquidity issues and a history of technical problems on its rather old planes (like, catching fire, but they were Tupolev’s FWIW) so it shouldn’t be conveniently presumed that it was foul play before the investigation is over.

well its indirect admission. and considering it was charter flight the likelyhood is far higher to target one nationality.

Egypt’s president and Britain’s prime minister have agreed on the need for “the tightest possible security” at the Sinai resort airport where a doomed Russian airliner departed, according to a statement from Cameron’s office released late on Tuesday.

With the T-50 being not really optimized for deep strike, how do the Russians intend to deal with A2/D2 threats?

    1. Massive cruise missile volleys may work but they need a secure air space launch basket.

Cruise missile can be launched from practically any platform. Subs/bomber etc upto 5k range that is sufficient for most of globe. More important is industrial capacity to manufacture cruise missile. If country A has 600 SAMs that can intercept cruise missile it’s better to send them 6000 cruise missile volley. It still cheaper than maintainaning aircraft carrier.

    >> It seems you don’t know any thing about flight testing. it only take one or maximum two years for cargo transport to enter service after first flight unless the computers estimation is off the mark.

A-400 cough. C-17 cough, cough. Oh yes, estimations are off.
Somewhere, a village is wondering about the loss of its idiot.

They are not introducing engines and materials over and above IL-476. flight tests should take similar time. only later versions can incrementally upgraded. C-17 development era was 30 years ago.

The MTA has barely moved over the last five years and won’t enter regular service before 2025, if not later. With respect to the KC-390 & C-130J, your comments vis a vis the RAAF’s F-35A acquisition apply here too (hardly wise to adopt the logistical burden of a third fighter type regardless of what complaints one has with the F-35).

    .

It has moved a lot in past 5 years.

What stops them from pursuing licensed production of the C-130J today?

The KC-390 might have been a viable alternative had the IAF not already been pencilled in for 12 C-130Js. As things stand, logistical commonality tips the scales very decisively in the SHerc’s favour.

low production volume assembly line is simply not viable. upfront licensing cost will be in billions for C-130J. licensing is commerical deals there is no subsidizing like FMS.
KC-390 in reality is licesne production not real ground up industrial supply chain thats why everything is imported and now currency heads wind has made it unaffordable for Brazil.
infact this MTA has same x-section and basically same production chain/engines. India is spending $700m in modernizing IL-76 there is no reason not start working on MTA faster. why is your logistical commonality arguement not there?
what happen to your claim of retiring IL-76 by IAF?.

5th is what WB says by PPP http://databank.worldbank.org/data/download/GDP_PPP.pdf

Although their Public Debt is at 15 % of GDP in 2015 and as per FM it will be 15.6 % by end of 2016 so not small either and sharp rise from from 11.4 % in 2013

    http://www.vedomosti.ru/newsline/economics/news/2015/10/27/614486-rossiya-gosdolga

You dont understand the difference between real gdp and bogus GDP. countries like India/Israel/Turkey/Egypt/Jordan/Spain does not have real GDP. it depends on Saudi led economic system of Middleast.
Saudi which is closest to Russia interms of energy exports. Saudi has only $178b GDP at current prices. (10mbbd=$500m per day of revenue). Saudi can afford to drop as much bombs on Yemen as NATO drop on Libya. not to mention supporting 200k to 300k armed combatants in Irak/Syria for years. This thing is beyond the capacity of whole EU unless they want to taxed there population and create enormous debt. This simplest example.

more complicated example is China/US. you have to think how half a million Chinese can afford US education and Chinese can become largest real estate buyers in US on top 2nd largest treasury and stock buying. this kind of GDP will ultimately lead to either Chinese president or Chinese influence president elected in US. thats all Obama GDP is about.

But this is exactly what I am referring to. Russia is comfortable placing Il-214 well down the priority list because it knows it has India’s custom in the bag. India needs to alter Russia’s sense of priorities — something that the prospect of losing a significant proportion of funding and orders for an aircraft it does want to build at some point could well do.

With some projects (e.g. FGFA) the case is so strong and the options so few that Russia can more or less get away with treating India however it likes. This is not the case with MTA. There is C-130J and there is KC-390. India has options and therefore leverage and should use it to secure her interests.

The problem is India cannot provide the 50% R&D and finance at suitable time frame.

“We have already carried out joint research projects, prepare the necessary documents to go to the ROC. Upon review of the materials that we have built together with India, it is decided to continue the work. We, on the other hand, is fully ready to start the ROC” – said Talikov during the MAKS-2015.
He noted that in the course of development of the project affect both the change of government in India occurred in 2014 and the change in the financing scheme of such developments and other factors.
As reported in June, the head of the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), Yuri Slyusarev, Russia calls on India to accelerate work on a plane, so that the first flight took place until 2020.

India exports are the lowest relative to domestic consumption GDP. there are inflows but it all depend on how long Middleast held up. I wont bet on it long term. plus environment.

its better to move forward with project and upgrade later versions otherwise India can affford very limited Western transports and with detrioting exchange rate coming up in few years. it will endup like Brazil.
