Even with local assembly vast chunks, if not the whole, of the parts ecosystem will be inside Russian borders for the Ka-226T. Whereas, the Fennec’s ecosystem is distributed across multiple countries and continents. Meaning, that if the IAF wanted a non-OEM but fully certified part, the IAF would have multiple choices for vendors for the Fennec. For the Ka-226T, it’s Rosbosomethingexport, or the highway… similar to the situation with pretty much every piece of Russian kit in the Indian forces.

India had F404 use in Tejas for past 15 years and still no license deal. Snecma is not even willing to enter into Kaveri at reasonable price.
Getting back to topic, comparing PAK-FA and Su-27 would be slightly different, as Su-27 never had impressive T/W, PAK-FA could easily improve on this, or there wouldn’t be that much weight increase from Su-27S (16,3 tons) to T-50 (estimates putting it around 18 tons) compared to F-15E (14,3 tons) to F-22 (19,7 tons). Also, T-50 is noticably smaller than Su-27 (which cannot be said for F-22 vs F-15E), can result in a less wetted area, despite having comperable wing area. So I would be careful about if I were to say T-50 is faster than Su-27 or not.
Su-27S has best TWR. It is F-15C with less powerfull engines that have 14.3 tons weight. F-15E/K are in 18 to 20 ton class.
T-50 is all composite airframe. its MTOW is only 5 ton more than MIG-35.
So the max. take-off weight of T-50 is 34-35t 🙂
MIG-35 MTOW is 22~23 ton. MIG-29K is 24.5tons.

For over four decades, Russia has been India’s largest arms supplier by a comfortable margin. Last year, the US overtook Russia to grab that spot.
According to the defence and security analysis group, IHS Jane’s, India has also supplanted Saudi Arabia as the world’s biggest buyer of American weaponry. In 2013, India imported $1.9 billion worth of US equipment, including the C-17 Globemaster III and the P-8I multi-mission aircraft.
Defence equipment imports from the US have shot up from just $237 million in 2009, to eight times that figure last year. And, with several high-value US contracts in the procurement pipeline – including a $600-700 million purchase of 145 M777 guns; additional C-130J Super Hercules and C-17 Globemaster III aircraft; and a possible billion-dollar buy of 8,400 Javelin anti-tank missiles – this is poised to rise even higher.
According to Indian analysts, the defence ministry in New Delhi is increasingly comfortable buying weaponry directly from the US department of defence (the Pentagon), partly because of the perception that this provides no space for corruption and arms agents. An increasing number of US contracts, such as those for C-17 aircraft and the M777 gun, are being routed through America’s foreign military sales programme, in which the Pentagon negotiates the rates and supply schedule with the vendor, on behalf of the buyer.
what is the credibility of this report where it says India replace Saudi Arabia as biggest buyer of US weopons. when things are so far apart between Suadi purchasing power and India that it is not even funny comparision.
That may have been the sentiment in 2007. But the sheer scale of purchases from the US since, suggests the fear of sanctions has evaporated. Between the C-130J, AH-64E, C-17, the decidedly high-end P-8I as well as lower end items like the M777, F404, F414, LM2500, F125, CBU-105, etc, the US has overtaken Russia and Israel as India’s largest defence suppliersending a, very positive message to Washington.

F414 ordered 99 but it does not mean they are delivered in one year. it likely to be delivered over span of 15 years (Teja MK2 start of production ) with payments spread out.

It does not make it largest supplier on yearly basis. infact Largest supplier to India does not mean much as capital budget is only $13b. with such small procurement most western firms will be reluctant for joint ventures or transfer tech. There cannot be another Brahmos kind deal.

I gave 1 ton margin to Gripen E since lighter weight engine againt F-16E.
F-16A was indeed lighter than M2K but once 29,000lbs engine with greater load capability introduced it rapidly gained weight.
Gripen E not only larger weopon load but greater internal fuel capacity and than weight of AESA. this can practically end up in failure. the point I am making it is underdeveloped plane even now with doubtfull capabilities.

Had the Gripen E been included in the down-select the IAF may already have been on its way to receiving deliveries by now. IIRC one of the primary reasons it was disqualified was that the AESA development in the time-frame wasn’t deemed feasible. Its now 2014…
Gripen E delivery in 2014 impossible if selected in 2012. Gripen E may well end up 9tons with underpowered engine. it has Canard, larger internal fuel and larger wing area than F-16E.
On the flip-side, the MoD could double down on the LCA program. They’ve spent just a billion or so on it. Plus $500M for the Mk2 & naval variant IIRC. Increase that budget, increase the production rate, spring for more AWACS & refuelers and it’ll get the job done (for a lower cost) while reducing the hassle of maintaining yet another distinct aircraft type.

my predictions are based on solid forecast. unlike some one forecasting Brazil buying this and that upto 2030 and extrapolating ramjet only solution for long range engagement.
when you increase production 4 to 5 times (that’s 4 to 5 times is understatement as far more word means multiple of 2 or 3 times) by 2020. it means you are hiring long term skilled labor and equipment. they are not going to idle it by 2020. and than you add huge numbers of fighter aircraft going to inventory. its very logical that AAMs produced will be in tens of thousands.

Sukhoi T-50 AESA is only coming after Russia produced over 1000 PESA fighter radars. the later versions are so refined that they almost surpass AESA in many characteristics. it means they have very large team of software and hardware developers for electronic scanning radars and backed with almost unlimited funding. see the gigantic AESA for A-100 AWACS to smallest AESA development for K-77M. I am not going into side projects like MIG-35/Ka-52K AESA/AESA for UHF radars or S-500
Japanese did not had this much history of radars when they deployed F-2 AESA or French with Rafale.
Russia probably has more experience with ramjet technology than anyone else, so I agree that the suspension of the ramjet AAM program isn’t going to put them behind in the grand scheme of things. As to why it was suspended, I suspect it’s simply a matter of funding priorities amid limited resources. Currently most of Russia’s AAM stock, like most of its munitions, dates from the Soviet era. At this point it’s much more important to replenish the inventory with modern, reliable munitions in the class of AIM-9X-2 or AIM-120D than to pursue the cutting edge.

RVV-BD is the longest and most effective BVR missile in operations. and than K-77M with AESA radar will come in 2015. it has presumably 40+ mile seeker range. any shot fired from Su-35/MIG-31 is not medium range at all. these are all long range weopons. than comes the quantity of production. current Ruaf procurement is 600+ combat aircraft excluding upgrades before 2020. these planes will atleast need 10,000 aams. and than add 2020 to 2030 production run of several thousand planes. and than add export figure over the top of it. AAM production will be 20 to 30 times in Russia more than in EU.
Meteor production can barely reach 1000 missiles by 2025 and that’s only if India gets Rafale on time.
Last year ktrv has $2.5b revenues on last year exchange rates. even if you deduct $1b for export. It is still $1.5b for Ruaf procurement.

Russia has a lot of experience with ramjet tech. so I am not sure whether it is discarded and if it is discarded so there will be good reason for that. than you add this failed project called Meteor with its slow procurement rate and Germanic propulsion. its with realm of possibility that they have good knowledge about it.
